The Second Season of "The Man in the High Castle." dropped on Amazon yesterday. It is a very well written, directed and visually stunning series. It will go down as one of the great series in entertainment.
I have watched some of the MIdsummer series but I sometimes got to sleep and then dont know who dunit!
BOL! My wife has the same problem if we start watching on at or later than 8pm.
So we try watch them about mid afternoon.
I have the same sentiments.
I'd like to see a "Repairman Jack" novel by F. Paul Wilson
on the screen. But considering these novels would thought to be
too conservative, too pro Second Amendment supporting, and
very pro individual liberty by Left-wing Hollyweird,
I can understand why they're ignored.
There is, however, a serious historical error in the series that bothers me every time I watch it.
When the show’s script has a pro-regime character refer to the German government or its administration of North America, the characters calls the government or the occupiers “Nazi”.
The fact is that real Nazis NEVER referred to themselves as Nazi. It was an insult word used only by opponents. You won’t find a single speech by Hitler or Goebbels that describes their government or their party as “Nazi”.
Nazis always referred to their party and their movement as national socialism. German national socialism was, in fact, their political ideal.
But, of course, nothing coming out of Hollywood can be expected to show the true consequences of socialism.
Is there some way to get season 1 on DVD? I lack the bandwidth for streaming video.
It’s not like he isn’t good, just perhaps not as good as all the media adaptions and resultant publicity make it seem. His ideas are certainly unique. But that is certainly no amazingly rare trait amongst his classic peers. I think there’s many who write better prose.

I don’t know if you guys have seen “Arrival” playing in the theaters now but it is an extremely well done SciFi film. I don’t see classic SciFi transferring to film very well unless it is fantasy with Orcs, Wizards etc.
Space Opera is hit and miss but classic speculative SciFi is almost never translated to film that well.
Arrival was very well done and worked for my wife and I. Another pair of senior couples behind us did not “get” it and thought it was a big whoop.
I think if you are a person who has read some very speculative fictional stories you can follow it. If you are looking for another comic book, this isn’t going to be it.
Well I’m not familiar with F. Paul Wilson, but it looks like his first sales were in Amazing in the early 70s. The movie the Keep was based on his 1981 book.

So at least he had something adapted by hollywood, even if it was a financial disaster.
I guess I was thinking more about contemporaries of PKD as far as sci-fi era. Poul Anderson, Jack Vance, and so on.

I noticed that also. I think they just want to tag the evil with a label every chance they get. Of course I have things about almost every movie and show that bug me. Most science and gun missteps.
You would enjoy this show.
Thanks for the recommend. It looks/sounds good to me. I guess it was based off a 1998 short story by Ted Chiang.

Humm...It looks like it can be bought for under $20. Ten episodes of about an hour each, so the price per hour is very good. I would be happy with that. Season 1 is really focused on laying the ground work for the plot and the characters. I enjoy good character development.
Were you able to watch the whole first season? It was too depressing for me. I couldn’t get past episode 5.
I just watched The OA on netflix. No really impressed.
My son and I watched “The Last Kingdom” on Netflix. It was extremely well done.
I’ll check it out it looks good
Just started second season. A nice thinky show.
They didn’t have time to modify the story line, this thing has been in the can for months. They apparently did discuss postponing the season, but that’s typical liberal silliness.
Well I know what I’m doing tonight.... :-)
Because he had a lot of interesting ideas you could build a story out of (though often not the same story, most of the movies “based” on his stories take one idea and run in a completely different direction). His kids who run the estate say yes a lot. They don’t charge a bunch, they understand a bunch of small checks add up to more than 1 or 2 big checks and a bunch of rejections. And they don’t complain about the final product, Hollywood really doesn’t like authors that complain.
Thanks for the insight.
