She's playing the role of Penny Johnson in ABC's forthcoming TV remake of Dirty Dancing.
But Nicole Scherzinger has revealed she almost turned down the part, played by Cynthia Rhodes in the classic 1987 film, because she harbours strong anti-abortion beliefs.

Is this the gal who was on the X Factor? She seems like she might be a little old for the lead in this. (Not trying to be mean, maybe it is another woman).
I only watched that movie once (I know, I’m a failure as a woman!), but I thought it had a very anti-abortion story line. I was surprised. But like I said I saw it once.
I salute this gal for being vocal, that is for sure! Thanks for posting it.
I am actually in this movie with Nicole, and she is playing Penny, Johnnys dance partner at Kellerman’s, not “Baby”, the lead character who is played by Abigail Breslin. Nicole was very sweet and genuine to work with, and she is a fantastic dancer!
Penny was the older girl that “got in trouble”. You are thinking of “Baby”, the younger girl.
It wasn’t anti-abortion at all. It was more of “how terrible abortion was illegal back then”. But I confess, I was a DD groupie.

Am I in the wrong forum? Dirty Dancing was one of the worst movies ever made. It was chock full of every liberal’s dream of how to make good (chastity) look evil and evil (abortion) look good. There was also the snarky part about Ayn Rand where the villain in the movie has her book & brags about how selfish he is.
I don’t even get the dancing. Most of it seemed to involve a lot of sweaty bodies writhing against each other. I guess that’s dancing.
Then, of course, there is the juxtaposition of the “squares” who are average Americans who dress nicely and listen to “dull” music vs the cool, hip youngster employees who gather together after hours to simulate intercourse on a dance floor.
Bah, the whole thing was just awful. Just another Hollywood assault on decency.
Yep. It will be on ABC next year, probably in the spring. I took a 30 year hiatus from the biz, and this was my first project back. I had a blast learning the different dances involved, and it was very well done.
Whoa! Dude, I am impressed! I’ll be sure to see this show!
