You probably noticed a lot of brown and tan rubber-bottomed foul weather shoes this season. Most likely, it's L.L. Bean's Bean Boot, which has undergone a popularity spike.
But they're not trendy on purpose. In fact, the boot has been in production — largely unmodified apart from slight changes for new technology — for more than 100 years.
Their popularity has waxed and waned during this time, but they've always endured. They're the unofficial mascot of L.L. Bean. But now, they're really thriving.

Annual sales have grown from fewer than 100,000 a decade ago to more than 600,000 this year. The company expects to top 700,000 next year and 1 million in 2018.

Great boots if you don’t mind cold feet and minimal support.
I never knew that they went out of style, must have had 5-7 pair of assorted styles.
Feet sweat too bad, cold feet.
Tend to roll on the foot, not for mountain wear.
I had a pair of knockoffs before I knew of LL Bean ones. I really didn’t like them and question whether I’d like the Bean ones. I don’t see the soles as having enough traction.
I bought a great pair of Sorel boots last year. Warm as can be and lots of traction.
The only LL Bean item I’ve ever had is a daypack, which has served me well for at least ten years.

The original LL Bean “duck boots” are comfortable, waterproof and last forever. I’ve got a pair that I’ve owned since I was in my late teens, no worse for wear other than replacing laces, the leather ages down to a nice dark brown. The insulated ones make a halfway decent pair of snow boots in a pinch too, if it isn’t too deep.
Many come insulated, and you can of course add your own insert.
Don’t know what you are doing wrong, to have such an issue. Using wrong sox, not enough wiggle room? I don’t sell ‘em, just enjoy ‘em for their reliable durability.
Yup just got my LLBean catalog and there they are.
Lodge is just fine by me. I have a couple Griswolds, but they were accidental finds.
Used every morning for eggs, and most nights for dinner.
LL Bean stuff is still largely great quality but some of their apparel has slipped. The pique knit shirts used to be great, roomy, nice durable fabric. Not so great now. Their cargo pants would last forever and still look good. Now they wear out in a year or two (yes I’m a fashion victim, they’re just too practical to give up, room for cell phones and all the junk you carry around with you these days).

You are exactly right about them. Kept your feet dry but not warm and they were not very comfortable if you had to walk any distance at all.
I guess that means you are getting old when a fashion trend from when you were in your late twenties to early thirties is coming back again.
I had a pair that served me well but we’d all be amputees from frostbite if we hunted in them.

Mine have padded Thinsulate, warm and supportive. Old as the hills too, as far as wearable shoes go, circa early 80’s.
