99% of 3rd party Apple chargers sold on line fail basic safety test and are dangerous in UK consumer safety organization test of 400 different chargers. 397 out of 400 different online purchased chargers failed the test! Only Apple certified 3rd party chargers are safe to use. The study did not examine the safety of the same make 3rd party chargers intended for use on Android devices, but they are probably just as unsafe, being made to the same specifications. PING!

This is why my iPhone and iPad chargers are the ones that came with devices in the first place. And I just got a second 12-watt iPad charger from the Apple Store. Yes, they cost more, but at least it's the real thing and won't cause problems down the road.

I made the mistake of trying to save some cash, and bought a cheap one. It didn’t catch fire, but it just didn’t work. I think it was counterfeit.
