22 Things You Didn’t Know About Chili Peppers

1. Chili peppers help you burn more calories by raising the body’s core temperature during digestion. What’s more, they trigger a reaction in your gut that tells your nervous system to produce more brown fat, a healthy fat that expends calories.

2. They also reduce appetite by forcing you to drink more water to cool off, and by distracting your mind, making you forget that you’re hungry.

3. Chili peppers release feel-good endorphins and dopamine, because your brain interprets the burn from hot peppers as pain, which can ultimately result in a sense of euphoria similar to a “runner’s high.”

4. Chili peppers alleviate sore muscles and tame arthritis thanks to those aforementioned endorphins, and also by inhibiting substance P, a neuropeptide that causes inflammation.

I’ve never raised or eaten them.
I stay with Tabasco up to Jamaican.
My specialty is Tabasco-Pickled Baby Okra!

I eat ghost pepper sea salt. Apparently when it is manufactured the workers wear masks.

A little bit of it goes a long way in cooking. And don’t ever get it on your finger and touch your eyes.

It’s probably good on chocolate cake too.
I know a tiny little splash is good in hot chocolate :)

This is the best roast beef recipe ever. I like to put about 7 or 8 of the pepperoncinis instead of the recommended 5.

Makes great sandwiches as well.

My observation is that men are more likely to rave about it than are women. Not sure why.

I know of a restaurant that serves this every Thursday for lunch. This is their busiest day and they run out sometimes.

"1. Chili peppers help you burn more calories by raising the body’s core temperature during digestion."

I don't think so.

I agree. And whenever I have a cold or sinus congestion nothing works better than hot peppers to clear it up.

I love my peppers. Funny story from when I worked at an A&P grocery store when I was younger.

Woman came through my line and asked if the peppers she had were hot. I said only one way to tell and I picked one up and ate it. I had to rush to the back of the store to the water fountain to extinguish the fire that explode in my mouth. When I got back to my cash register, still so hoarse I could barely get out the, yeah very hot, for her to retort I don't want them then. It was all I could do to contain myself from coming across the conveyor belt after her.

Needless to say, I never tried another thing for someone. 8>)

I had a habanero burger at a restaurant that tasted really good, so I grew some habaneros this year. I touched a tiny piece to my tongue. My cheeks went numb for half an hour.

I dried the remainder and put them in with my garden chemicals and marked it poison.

It sounds really good, but only calls for FIVE pepperoncinis? I noticed one of the reviewers said “more like 20” I might try it that way...

23. Ghost peppers also make excellent suppositories.

Well, that's what I tell my liberal friends, anyway.

Why do people who make lists assume no one knows anything?

23. Peppers grow on things called "plants".
