1. Chili peppers help you burn more calories by raising the body’s core temperature during digestion. What’s more, they trigger a reaction in your gut that tells your nervous system to produce more brown fat, a healthy fat that expends calories.

2. They also reduce appetite by forcing you to drink more water to cool off, and by distracting your mind, making you forget that you’re hungry.

3. Chili peppers release feel-good endorphins and dopamine, because your brain interprets the burn from hot peppers as pain, which can ultimately result in a sense of euphoria similar to a “runner’s high.”

4. Chili peppers alleviate sore muscles and tame arthritis thanks to those aforementioned endorphins, and also by inhibiting substance P, a neuropeptide that causes inflammation.

Anything hotter than a jalapeno is too much for me - I mix ketchup 3 to 1 with Siracha and it’s just right.

Years ago I considered the Pepperoncini a spicy pepper...

this year I grew the Naga Jolokia 'Ghost Pepper'... didn't say I 'ate' it.

I’ve never felt anything like that so-called “runner’s high” from eating anything with hot peppers. I’m not going to try something painfully hot just to see if that’s what it takes.

So if I mix Carolina Reapers with my homemade chocolate candy I will lose weight when I eat it? Or will my tongue just fry off?

Enjoying some pepper-induced ‘pain’ right now from Sepia Serpent, 007 Pot Orange and Red, and Fatalii Gourmet Jigsaw...it hurts soooooo good!

Water doesn’t actually help you cool off from hot food. If it’s cold it actually makes it worse by contracting your pores with hot stuff in them. Sour cream soothes hot food pain. Which isn’t terribly good for you.

We had some Cayenne beef roast on Thanksgiving and it was nice. I stuffed jalapenos in a bbq brisket and those leave some heat. Thanks for the recipe! Enjoy...
