Would you be willing to slam into a mountainside in a 100+ mph airliner crash on a $1B wager, even with the finest seatbelts available?
Not me. Based upon the pics, those unfortunate people were doomed.

That plane looks too small to be the one involved in this crash.

I read somewhere that the pilot intentionally dumped fuel to avoid an explosion on impact, probably also to reduce the planes weight.Thank you. That is the most logical and most sensible explanation of what likely happened, and why there was no fire.

To be honest, if I had to die a premature death I think that a plane crash would be one of the preferable ways to go. Likely no pain at the end, and if you haven’t already, you know exactly how much time you have to get right with God. You could probably even leave a farewell message to loved ones on your phone.

The airline had owned only three planes and the other two were grounded. One of the airline owner was co-owner of a soccer team and it was soccer charters that kept the business afloat.
RIP to the victims.

There was also that remarkable "Aloha Airlines" case where the aluminum fuselage essentially delaminated/exploded off the plane.
What a miracle that was years ago: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aloha_Airlines_Flight_243

Or perhaps it was God? Have you given Him thanksgiving?

I trusted BING to give me a photo of the crash. I didn't verify that the photo shown (and described as the recent Columbian plane crash) was the right one.
As you can see, I caught onto that a couple of posts back.

Completely agree ... I will never fly again, haven’t in over 10 years

I understand (read it from an article) they were dumping fuel. Which is standard protocol in an emergency.

A lot of fun being poked around on a thread that is really a tragedy, shameful

Yup. I saw your correction after I posted my comment. No harm no foul.

Well, at least if it all ends in a car, you had SOME control over the matter given you are steering the car. You have ZERO control when flying. No control whatsoever in any part of the flight.

I watched that movie this past weekend with my 15 year old son. It was the first time he’d seen it. I think he has a new favorite movie.

statistically, you are more likely to die in a vehicular accident than an airplane crashI think most of us already know that, and would still rather drive than to get on a plane.
Obviously risk depends on length of trip, weather conditions etc. But when you drive a car, you usually have some choice of route. I tend to take back roads whenever feasible, rather than hurtle along at 70-80 mph on the Interstate.
Sure, you can get killed on a back road too. A tree could fall on you, or a deer jump through your windshield. So yeah, I remember that life is fatal and say my prayers often.

I'm sure you're aware you are more at risk each time you get in an automobile, right?
