Call me old-fashioned, but one thing I am always thankful for every Thanksgiving is the blessing of not having Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the White House. After all, of all the heroes of the American progressive movement, few have quite the record of sins as FDR. The man routinely celebrated in the halls of academia was guilty of Japanese internment camps, stealing Americans' gold, prolonging the Great Depression, and establishing a number of Federal agencies that continue to haunt the American economy today. But perhaps one of the most absurd examples of Roosevelt’s Presidential arrogance was his attempt in 1939 to move Thanksgiving a week earlier than its traditional date as the last Thursday Thanksgiving in November.
The President’s motivation would have earned the approval of his friend John Maynard Keynes. The country was still suffering from the Great Depression and some prominent retailers were concerned that since the holiday fell on the unusually late date of November 30th, post-Thanksgiving day sales would suffer.

People at the time weren’t happy about it—at least according to my relatives. He was messing with a life-long traditional holiday for the reason to prolong the Christmas shopping season. FDR was one of those politicians who people with loathed or worshiped. My family was in the former category (at least the ones who were willing to talk of those days). The moving of Thanksgiving was one of those ‘sins’ that effected everyone. Taking of the gold was of course a bigger deal, but most people didn’t have gold (or at least very much), so most didn’t care. But moving Thanksgiving? They cared.

Yeah, my (paternal) grandparents despised the man, despite the fact that my grandfather briefly worked for one of his utterly useless make-work federal projects.

Eleanor is to blame for much of the problem as well.

FDR knew the japanese were headed to Hawaii but he knew the fleet was “safe” in Pearl Harbor because we had broke the code, They “knew” that airplanes were no danger to the fleet.
WW2 could have been prevented except or stupid leaders wanted it to happen. Follow the money.

FDR blockaded the supply of oil to Japan; what was Japan to do? FDR caused the entire mess in the Pacific. That part of WWII was entirely on his shoulders. Europe we can discuss with lend lease, etc.

I understand Rosevelt danced when he learned about Pearl Harbor.
Earl Harbor saved his presidency. He would have gone down in history fighting Jimmy Carter and BHO as worst presidents.
The Japanese invasions of China and Indochina and their alliance with Nazi Germany were also factors. You think those things didn’t matter?

The contest is over. I don’t see anyone, anytime being able to surpass the Messiah in the contest to be a terrible Commander in Chief.

Did Roosevelt invade China? Did Roosevelt invade Indochina? Did he make an alliance with Nazi Germany?
I think Roosevelt was one of the worst presidents ever, but that war sits squarely on Japan’s shoulders.
