Calexit: Leftists File Papers to Secede, Form New Confederacy(bye felicia)

A group of left-wing Californians, frustrated with the recent election of Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States, has filed an application to put a secession referendum — “Calexit” — on the 2018 ballot.

The East Bay Times reports that the group, called Yes California, intends to circumvent the U.S. Congress:

A “yes” vote would trigger a special election the following March in which residents would decide if “California should become a free, sovereign and independent country.”

Another “yes” vote would require the governor of the newly minted “Republic of California” to apply to the United Nations for membership.

Can’t say I’d miss it. Six states from one.

Texas Vs. White was bad law. The US Constitution is silent on the issue of secession. For a reason.

Yeah...
30 Days after “Independence”, they will be killing each other over ditch water.

Karma is often cruel, but it is ALWAYS just.

The problem is that California has literally been invaded by millions of Mexicans and South Americans. Over 40% of people residing in California speak a language other than English at home and most currently have no desire to assimilate into our society. If one invalidated the millions of votes from the illegal invaders registered when they were given their drivers licenses then the situation looks quite different electorally. The Democrats made it easy for them to vote illegally and actually encouraged them to do it. This sanctuary city crap is to protect all the illegal Democrat votes. At this point Latinos now outnumber Whites in California.

As you allude, even as it is currently however, 2/3rds to 3/4s of the land mass are still in conservative areas. It is the population centers around Los Angeles and San Francisco that are the biggest Democrat areas.

Everything in your power? Go for it. But the San Diego Navy yards, Camp Pendleton, the Jet Propulsion Lab, the Golden Gate Bridge, and all the other facilities built and paid for by all of us aren’t theirs to keep.

“I would vote in favor of this and if successful move out of California.”

Why would anyone want you?

This movement is probably funded by Mexico and/or China.

There are a lot of people in denial about how divided this nation has become. It is exhausting foe all parties having to live like this. Most nations this divided would have had a war by now. CA seceding would be a huge pressure relief valve. For this reason I say CALEXIT NOW!

If California did secede, how long before it would be resorbed by Mexico without the US military and law enforcement to defend it?

As to the La Raza protestors who want to make California and the rest of the US Southwest Mexico again, that's not what they really want. If they loved Mexico so much, they'd be living in Mexico. What they want instead is to live in the US, benefit from our infrastructure, economy, and social programs, while continuing to act as though they're still living in Mexico (i.e. barrio culture of poverty and crime, local Padrone system, Spanish/Spanglish only, etc). They want the "best" of both worlds, and thanks to our policies that's exactly what they're getting.

Well, first they have to pay up their $2.4T portion of the national debt.
Can’t leave until you pay your tab.

Next, the water rights contracts will be cancelled.
Adjacent states will be delighted to reclaim the water CA has been taking for terraforming deserts.
(Oh, CA farms will dry up? Better get busy building giant desalination plants and nuclear reactors to power them; pity there’s no money after paying off that debt bill.)

Then there’s tariffs. Anything made in CA will have a 10-30% price hike when sold to the now-foreign primary trading partner. That won’t go well.

Of course, the dominant CA government is socialist, so their solution will be to redistribute wealth. Ask Venezuela how that went recently.

I tell ya, FReepers have it backwards. Secession is going to happen, but it's not going to be initiated by Red States.

Liberals are much, much easier to herd than Conservatives.

These dummies have no idea what the consequences would be. Besides losing federal money, all the federal facilities would move out of the state.

Do they think they get to keep all the Air Force bases, Marine Corps, Navy and Army bases?

Not only do they lose those, they would then have to invest in their own defense. They can't even afford their own government now.

How bout a return of the federal tax dollars they received in the past. As I recall, secession was tried once before. They best have a standing army if they don’t return the federal dollars.
