As part of his 100-day action plan, President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to block all federal funding to sanctuary cities.
What is a sanctuary city? Here's what it means to 22-year-old Thais Marques, an undocumented immigrant who lives in the sanctuary city of Newark, N.J.: "It means that I can be safe in my own city," she said. "If I get pulled over or if something happens, I know that my family won't be detained and I won't be detained."
More than 350 counties, cities and states are so-called sanctuaries. There isn't a legal definition for a "sanctuary city." But, generally, these places have policies, police department orders or nonbinding resolutions that limit government officials from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement.
"It isn't the duty or the obligation of a local police officer or social worker to inquire about a person's immigration status or to enforce those immigration laws," said Dan Kesselbrenner, executive director of the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild.
Illinois Comptroller-elect Susana Mendoza said Trump's plan to block federal funding to sanctuary cities "is morally corrupt, but more importantly, it's fiscally unsound."
Without much detail from Trump, it's not clear how much money Chicago could lose, Mendoza said. But, she added, it'd likely be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Brasília?
But are liberals and progressives losing their minds. And if they are losing their minds it means good things are happening for the country.
Pro Second Ammendment, anti murder in the womb judges to be appointed, sanctuary cities to be defunded, taxes and regulations reduced, more jobs, higher wages. Strong border security and our immigration laws enforced. A border wall. These are all the things Mr. Trump wants for this nation and it’s all good. I hope he can get it all done. He certainly is a man of action.
The progeny of illegals are being used by Demoncrats to create a massive voting base.
...
You’ve got it. It’s been going on since the 1960’s and also includes most legal immigrants.
No they won’t.
They’ll lean on and shake down genuine American citizens just like that ginger bi_#h in Germany does.
Then it gets very expensive to have your position.
Cut em off
You bet the ratting out would be “fast and furious”
All actions .. have consequences !
Even the establishment of "sanctuary cities" !!
veto
What a shame if the federal highways leading in and out of these cities are roadblocked by National Guard units to prevent aiding and abetting fugitives from federal prosecution. Good luck feeding yourselves, Sanctuary Cities.
These cities will also feel the pinch if air traffic controllers are ordered not to allow planes to land or take off from their airports. The FAA can shut these down to prevent illegals from escaping justice.
Step 1 all illegals on gov assistance must go. Step2 no valid SSN bus can’t deduct salary from taxes
Yep. The local police departments are saying “it isn’t our job to assist the federal government”. So deputize retired LEOs. bounty hunters, etc. as Federal Marshals to go in and round them up and deport them.
Station people outside police stations and jails to pick up illegals rather than expecting the PD to notify when they are releasing an illegal.
Yep. And shut down all other Federal services — like air traffic controllers for airports and customs inspections for cargo ships and authorizations for medicaid and medicare procedures and section 8 housing payments.

Mexico probably needs community organizers more than America does. just sayin’.
Bueno.
As does Brazil, where this particular community organizer is from.
