The Chief Justice typically administers the oath of office at the inauguration of the President of the United States.
With this in mind, Would Donald Trump set aside this tradition and pick his own member of the The Supreme Court to administer the Oath?
My personal pick would be Justice Thomas just because Trump has brought on board more many African Americans than ever before in the history of the Republican Party.
However, anyone with a Notary Public license can also be used to administer the oath, in that case IF anyone of his family has successfully established themselves as a Notary Public that person would qualify to affirm their father into office.
I know it's probable a stretch of my imagination, on my part, but considering that Chief Justice Roberts was the member of the court to make possible the Obama health act I would be very disappointed if Roberts were to be given that honor.
So, my question is , considering the options, who would YOU like to see administrating the Oath to our next president?
I have no idea, but why did Roberts have to deliver the oath to Obama twice?
Once public, once private? What weird masonic freakshow was really going on there?
A commissioned officer in the military is also authorized to administer oaths of office.
On April 30, 1789, George Washington took the oath as the first president of the United States. The oath was administered by Robert R. Livingston, the Chancellor of New York, on a second floor balcony of Federal Hall, above a crowd assembled in the streets to witness this historic event.
Once with a Bible and once with a Koran
?
Everything in DC is a log-rolling exercise. Everyone in a high-profile role wants their moment in the spotlight. Through his remarks and judicial opinions, Roberts has demonstrated that he is an approval-seeker.
Trump is no fool. Trump has picked and will pick his battles although he picks more than most.
There is no compelling reason to push Roberts aside, either from a personal perspective (Trump & Roberts have no history that I know of) and because Trump wouldn’t want the headache associated with it.
He knows he needs to keep as many people as sweet as possible since they all have it in for him anyway. He knows the media would caterwaul, accuse Trump of politicizing the court, bucking tradition, etc.
Even if it were a good idea in theory, it would be a disastrous idea in practice.
I know, right? Considering Roberts collusion with Obama on Obamacare months later.
Roberts and Obama were also strange because they staged a “fight” at one of Obama’s SOTU addresses... or something... and then Roberts gave us Obamacare... very weird stuff.
And you’re right, masons love the Koran, I still don’t get why.
(Lord please reveal Roberts’ true motives as You have been doing this whole election season, for the sake of the American people, who need to know the truth. Amen.)
During the swearing in at the Capital, either Roberts or Obama (can’t recall which one) stumbled over one of the words.
Roberts thought it serious enough to want to administer a re-do and he went to the White House to do it.
At Obama’s first inauguration, in administering the oath, they mixed up some of the words of the oath. So they did a private ceremony afterwards, using the exact words of the oath by law, so that there would be no questions about legalities of being sworn in.
At Obama’s second inauguration, January 20th was a Sunday. So the oath of office was administered privately that day, while the public ceremony was Monday, January 21st. The public ceremonial inauguration is done the day after, if January 20th falls on a Sunday.
Trump needs to clear up the double oath taking weirdness with Roberts and Obama first and make it all public.
What words did Obama stumble over, exactly? And if the oath could not be administered publicly on a Sunday, why could it be delivered privately?
The public aspect of the oath is what is important, not what is recited in private. Phrases like “consent of the governed’ come to mind...
All too weird, as it all needs a public explanation.
wow....really great question.
It would make me ill to see Roberts swear Trump in.
Also. if Trump changes the tradition...it would be a really great symbol of changing the way Washington works.....
GREAT WAY to start his administration
He had to give it twice because he screwed it up.
Not Obama. But Obama did not want anyone thinking he wasn’t really President.
I think it would be ill-advised to antagonize more people.
It was definitely Roberts. I remember he got a lot of crap over it. In fact, I think he might of left something out. Everyone was saying it might of not been a legal oath. He redid it in private to put everyone's mind at ease.
[A commissioned officer in the military is also authorized...]
If President(e) Trump were to use a military officer, he would use the top military member and that could be (IMO) reveal who his choice for the next head of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff will be.
I’d like to see Trump skip all the parties and ‘the show’ and make it all business.
Simple oath, military band, get to work.
Same for the first State of the Union address, skip the long walk in, kisses and hugs from traitors. Enter from the side, tell the people that the Union is not strong, yet!
1. Report the real unemployment and tell the people how the real numbers will be reported (none of the U6, non participating junk).
2. Declare a state emergency on our national security with regard to border, immigration, energy and debt.
3. Remind the justices to stick to the constitution.
4. Remind the congress that the people voted for his agenda.
5. Inform them that just because you appropriate funds that doesn’t mean Trump will spend them.
6. Tell the American people to hold their congress accountable.
7. God Bless the United States of America.
8. Drop the mic and get to work.
I think he leaves it. He doesn’t needed to pick a fight with Roberts. He needs him as an ally.
Due security concerns and to the fact that if inauguration day falls on a Sunday, the oath is traditionally administered on Sunday in private with a public ceremony on Monday, I think he should be privately sworn in at 12:01am. This would burst the bubbles of anti Trump protesters thinking they could stop the swearing in. Plus Trump would already be CIC and in control of all security forces.
If memory serves someone flubbed his lines at the swearing in so they redid it to quash any conspiracy theories.
[Simple oath, military band, get to work.]
I have to agree that all that Pomp and Ceremony is overworked, I guess I despise Roberts so much that I can’t contain myself.
