It may surprise many to learn that Donald Trump, having campaigned so fiercely on the issue of curbing immigration, is himself the son of an economic migrant.
Half of Donald Trump's DNA is Scottish. His late mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, was born and raised on the remote and beautiful Scottish Isle of Lewis, before leaving as a 17-year-old for the United States to work as a domestic servant in 1930.
CNN traveled to the far-flung island to trace Trump's roots, how his mother's origins may have shaped the presidential candidate, and how he is viewed there today.

The article is simply an opinion piece. Maybe true maybe not.
My guess is it is a hit piece which is typical of the media.
One could say sardonically, some days you’re the dog, other days you’re the hydrant.
What kind of tie does this have to the Mexico situation? As far as I know, the souls that Mexico is encouraging to go north haven’t been actually kicked out of anything, though it may stink that they’re being treated by Mexico as though they aren’t wanted (actually they ARE wanted, but to send money back from the north).
It’s CNN, so sure. But still interesting. JMHO
Clinton News Network.
Nuff said.
uhh.....Scotland is not an island
Beautiful place but it must have been a hard life.
Mary Anne I think make the right choice in leaving.
My mother worked as a domestic before she married my father. I can relate.
She was born on the Island of Lewis in the Hebrides.
The Western Islands are the last conservative and religious area of the UK.
It could have been a great, interesting and even pro-American piece - but no-o-o-o. They can’t even be kind to his dead mother.
He comes by it honestly !
a piece that could’ve been interesting is instead full of partisan propaganda. typical for the libtards at cnn
just ignore and continue to boycott anything on the left
“... having campaigned so fiercely on the issue of curbing immigration ...”
This is just an excuse to (again) mischaracterize his position. He’s against ILLEGAL immigration.
p.s. I’ve been to Lewis. Beautiful place. In the summer. I’d hate to live though a winter there.
Consider the source, CNN, for this poorly written article.
But, there is another story that is quite profound.
You know that anyone related to that tiny, remote village would always have strong ties to it.
Donald’s mother immigrated in 1930, and was deeply religious.
She would have been informed on the amazing “Revival on the Isle of Lewis.” in 1945. She certainly would have passed this story on to Donald.
If you do a search on that title you’ll hear “How a tiny island could shape a President.”
It will give you entirely different perspective on the article posted.
Cut some slack. It's part of an island. Is Scotland an Island nation? Is Scotland a continental nation?
