The woman who rescued an injured bobcat that was released back into the wild earlier this week said Thursday she is now facing charges for saving the animal.
Melody Kohl said she found the bobcat on a Poway road and when she went to help it she ended up in a confrontation with a sheriff's deputy.
The day of the rescue, San Diego County Sheriff's Deputy responded to reports of a body on Espola Road. In reality, it was Kohl on the road trying to rescue an injured bobcat.
Kohl said the deputy wanted her to move her car because it was blocking lanes and causing a traffic hazard. She defended her actions because, according to her, the bobcat was stressed and in her lap with a broken femur.
The deputy demanded she move out of the road or she would be arrested.
"He was scaring the bobcat. These are wild animals and it was reaching into my skin every time the cop would start shouting at me," she said.

A stressed wild bobcat with a broken femur was in her lap? Bobcat enthusiasts may enlighten me, but somehow I have trouble believing that.
I had a Bobcat once, Mecury Bobcat. I think it was a 1975 model. Sorry, cannot sleep.
Oh, I thought it was referring to a Melroe Bobcat, loader....
LOL!
It was probably still stunned from getting clipped by a car.
The woman was lucky a car didn’t do the same to her while she was sitting in the road hanging on to that broken wild pussy.
Some cops just can’t cope with anything outside of their point of view. That especially applies to benign issues that call for less is better.
Really...a bobcat????...I hope that makes the nightly news!!!!!!!!!!!
This is my hometown: Poway, CA (”The City in the Country”) in San Diego County. Lots of wildlife among the residents; a neighborhood blog reported a coyote on the sidewalk this past evening. A roadrunner — yes, they’re amazingly fast — blazed across my front yard yesterday as I pulled my car into the driveway. A skunk has been making rounds on my street in the early AM for the past several days (whew!).
Would like to know more about the release of the bobcat back into the wild. We have an ecological preserve nearby where animals are let go. Might have subsequently been hit by a vehicle. Don’t know the woman, but article says she has a suspended license, which means multiple DUIs.
The drought has been causing wildlife to venture into populated areas more than usual in search of food & water. The coyotes go after family pets. They can leap a six foot fence with ease.
She grabbed some pussy?
Sheesh! Everyone’s doing it...
She is lucky the bobcat didn’t rip her a new one. But sometimes animals know when they are being helped.
Sounded like the cop was a real Jack*ss.
A feral house cat can be extremely vicious when caught. A bobcat, being considerably larger and never domesticated, should be much worse. My point is, that lady could have been literally scratched to death.
Now saving the animal is probably a noble thing, but she did not have to block traffic to do it. Stressing the animal? Well, what about the poor rabbits and other animal that bobcat has stressed while killing it? It’s how life works.
I’m for the cop, and IMO, the lady is stupid for handling a wild animal known for it’s viciousness. The cop was simply doing his job.
Bobcats are “Friendly “ around here.
Rich man’s Pinto.
They look friendly around here too, but I like them on the other side of the glass window...:^)
Ah,
Cute Kitty,
Here Kitty,Kitty !
Ouch , let go of My Arm!
Hope they don’t wander over to the Sears optical raccoon lady’s house....
Come snuggles with Mama...
RAWR!!!
