Marvel Studios' "Doctor Strange" is expected to draw a massive audience this weekend, providing some much needed medicine for Hollywood during a bruising fall box office season.
Analysts expect the visually stylish Benedict Cumberbatch comic book movie to collect $65 million to $75 million in ticket sales from the United States and Canada through Sunday. Some more optimistic industry observers predict the film, about a former neurosurgeon who harnesses mystical powers, may reach $80 million in domestic grosses...
"Doctor Strange is a C-level Marvel character, and the fact that you can pull an $80-million debut is ludicrous when you think about it." ...

TVland and Movieland have pretty well been saturated with these comics/superheroes. Even Amazon Prime and Netflix have produced some series.
While they are a tad preferrable to realityTV, my interest is becoming jaded.
There won’t even be a free cup of coffee at Starbucks for Steve Ditko (and some people have tracked him down in recent years).
Is it PC? If so, no go.
PC?
I will see Hacksaw Ridge if Trump wins. Otherwise, I’m not going into a theater.
Looking at the trailer, one hopes Nolan gets the message: if Marvel (and to a lesser extent ST & SW) are going to riff on your CGI quad-dimensional uberthink to the tune of billions, make the goddamn Inception sequel before Leo is too old/rich to compel or care...
Don’t want to go to a theater ? Me either.
However, if you want to watch Dr. Strange, or Jack Reacher, or just about anything else... go to 123movies.to

I suppose the only PC aspects is playing with the gender of the ancient one and the race of another character, but all in all, it’s a nicely flowing movie that is visually stunning.
Right now, Disney owns the top four films at the box office this year, and three (”Captain America: Civil War,” “Zootopia,” “Finding Dory”) have broken the billion dollar mark. (”The Jungle Book” is the fourth.)
Disney has Marvel “Doctor Strange,” animation “Moana” (starring The Rock), and “Star Wars: Rogue One” coming out before the end of the year.
I’m thinking only “Fantastic Beasts” from the Harry Potter Universe has a shot at coming in higher than any of these seven Disney films.
I think you’re right now that you mention it.
Been a long day and going on 4 hours of broken sleep put me off my game.
I tip my hat to your superior intellect.
Sorry if I came across as an a-hole. I’m cognizant of it and still trying to not do it.
Not at all. No sweat. I’ve done similar myself.
I’m an IT guy in factory. It takes a lot to even begin to bother me.
Yes, loved the first one. Second a little too predictable. Tom looking old.
Yes.
Won’t give Red Ben my money. Yah, Cruise a leftie, but doesn’t advertise it like Red Ben.
Larry, have you read any of the Jack Reacher books?
Yes, I think I read three. I gave up because it was just implausible that a guy had no cash, no address, no driver’s license and could stay off the grid like that.
“Doctor Strange is a C-level Marvel character, and the fact that you can pull an $80-million debut is ludicrous when you think about it.”
Fifty years ago such a movie would have been given a B budget with chintzy special effects in Black and White, and be shown on the bottom half of a drive in double feature with HERCULES AND THE WOMEN FROM MARS.
Today such a movie gets class A budgets, top CGIs, glorious color and will be rushed to DVD in three months.
We are overloaded with superhero movies. A few weeks ago the local 6 Plex had two superhero movies, two SI-FI movies, a teen movie and a kiddie cartoon movie. Nothing for an adult.
We truly live in an age of fantasy.
I think they’re hoping this is another “Guardians of the Galaxy”, cheap picture riding off novelty, humor and ideas to make a lot of money.
It’s wasn’t cheap, it’s not a “novelty” as Dr. Strange had a big following in comics, and it wasn’t a “humorous” movie, at least compared to “Ant Man” and “Guardians of the Galaxy”.
