Is John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ the worst song of all time?,

Yes.

I'd vote for "Do They Know It's Christmas".

Nothing says Merry Christmas like Bono wailing "TONITE THANK GOD ITS THEM, INSTEAD OF YOOOOOOOOOOOU!!!" Whatta sentiment.

“Do they even know it’s Christmas?” (the Band Aid song) is up there for me.

It's a song about Marxist utopia...

The Lost John Lennon Interview
"Power to the People"

TA (interviewer): In a way you were even thinking about politics when you seemed to be knocking revolution?

JL (Lennon): Ah, sure, 'Revolution' . There were two versions of that song but the underground left only picked up on the one that said 'count me out'. The original version which ends up on the LP said 'count me in' too; I put in both because I wasn't sure. There was a third version that was just abstract, musique concrete, kind of loops and that, people screaming. I thought I was painting in sound a picture of revolution--but I made a mistake, you know. The mistake was that it was anti-revolution.

On the version released as a single I said 'when you talk about destruction you can count me out'. I didn't want to get killed. I didn't really know that much about the Maoists, but I just knew that they seemed to be so few and yet they painted themselves green and stood in front of the police waiting to get picked off. I just thought it was unsubtle, you know.

I thought the original Communist revolutionaries coordinated themselves a bit better and didn't go around shouting about it. That was how I felt--I was really asking a question. As someone from the working class I was always interested in Russia and China and everything that related to the working class, even though I was playing the capitalist game.

Lyrically, Imagine is horrible; but he did write a nice melody to it.

As bad as Imagine was as a song the worst part is that the author,John Lennon, died with an estate of over a billion dollars back when gas was 50 cents a gallon and a co-op at The Dakota could be bought for $300K.

So much for "imagine no possessions".

Oh yeah, and any cover by Michael Buble. He always seems to cover songs that he can never hope to equal, much less do better than the original artist. So every time I hear one of his songs, I’m just dumbfounded as to why anyone would want to hear that when the much better original is available.

What about Don McLean’s “American Pie”? If for no other reason, the amount it gets played on the classic rock station (CHEZ 106) up in my parts, lol.

No, not even close.

These are two of the worst songs I have ever heard-

The Mumble Song:

NSFW, not safe for home, not safe for anywhere, not safe for normal people, if you are a Christian DO NOT LISTEN!

F*** The Pain Away performed by some nasty woman-

All of the songs you listed are absolute works of art, masterpieces even, compared to the trash I linked.

I think because of the popularity of those songs they get repeated ad nauseum. It’s the constant repetition that makes them grate on one’s nerves.

The reason Imagine is so dangerous is because it is hypnotic.

1. Ironic - by somebody Morisette.

2. Muskrat Love - no matter who did it. This was originally the worst song ever until I heard the above for the first time.

“We Built This City on Rock & Roll”. Hands down the absolut worst.

I saw Starship (ok Mickey Thomas and a bunch of unknowns. The guy playing guitar actually collapsed back stage of a heart attack and died right after their set) a few years ago and when they played that song my wife giggled through the whole song because she knows how much I hate that song. And no I didnt go to see them, they were opening up for Boston who I did go to see.

What, no "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty?

No "Free Bird" by Lynryd Skynyrd?

For the record, both are in my iPod, but these two songs seemingly appear on "worst" lists all the time.

Overall, I think the list sucks. There a some I agree with, but there are a lot of rock classics on that list that were shown no respect.

What I really love is when you’re at some sort of ecumenical event and some doofus sings Imagine followed by Kumbaya.

Either song causes me to stand up and leave.

I’ve learned to know before I go in what’s probably coming and don’t bother to attend.

My least favorite song in the world is Last Christmas. I run a Trail Life USA troop and someone (my son) told the boys in the troop, so at least once a meeting, they sing it to me. Unngggghhhh
