Every time I hear that song mentioned, I think of an old Steven Wright line: “I’d like to perform everything the Beatles ever wrote ... I won’t do all of Hey Jude.”

“The internationale”, “ Horst Wessel Song”, “Momma Told Me Not To Come” (lyrics sound like “I’m A Toad In A Tub” to me),”The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” are ripe candidates.

Haha! Hey, Jude was the first one I thought of.

Quick story that I still chuckle about...

Sitting in a local pub one night, a guy with a guitar in the corner taking requests. The fellow sitting next to me, Fred, an old Texan about 6 beers into his night. He sounded much like Grandpa Bear on the Hillbilly Bears. Mumble, mumble, mumble, shotgun, mumble, mumble...

The guitar man started up playing Hey, Jude.

Fred calmly puts away beer number 6 and orders up 7. Tilts his head slightly to listen... Then he rolls his eyes, reaches for his fresh beer and says, “Aw, dang... Hell, that song sucked when it was new and it ain’t got any better...” :-)

I was never a big John Lennon fan, at least not after he left the Beatles.

My favorite time period for them was “Ticket to Ride” timeframe, from “Help”. Loved their sound and the music. Sgt Pepper was a masterpiece too.

Wasn’t crazy about the White Album, and when Lennon went out on his own and got strange, well... that was too bad.

Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass” album is one of my favorites still.

“Imagine”... Eh. It’s his way of wishing for a better world. Don’t particularly care for the song, but the sentiment itself, I can understand.

I suppose we ALL want a better world to live in... just a few “minor disagreements” on how to get there.

That’s probably my choice, too.

Speaking of ironic...

Lennon starts the song “Imagine there’s no Heaven...”
then everything he imagines is only possible because there IS a Heaven!

Hi, and thanks for sharing that interesting story. I probably was a bit unfair in my initial comment about the song and it is good to hear perspectives such as yours to get a better one for myself.

Yes, BIG Genesis fan until “There Used to be Five”. Phil was a great drummer, but couldn’t much stand him out front (except maybe the tambourine dance). Never got to see them with Gabriel, but The Musical Box is a really good re-creation band. And Hackett on guitar is second only to —make that on a par with— Steve Howe. Do you know Camel?

To be honest, I have no idea what that thing is.

As I watched the video, I also wondered if it was a man. I clicked on another video of it doing a live performance, and I still couldn’t really tell.

But I have to say that, yes, it could easily be a man. All I know for sure that it is vile and vulgar.

Yes and yes.
Plus John Lennon was a multi millionaire and would not give up a dime for the “masses”.

I prefer Blackfoot’s “Highway Song” as a good long Southern anthem.

Imagine is a great melody. It’s also a liberal theme song. Telling everyone else to give up possessions and give til it hurts. Everyone else.

Considering,

frequency of broadcast;

level of musicianship;

philosophy of lyric:

Yes.

Ram a lama ding dong, is more moving and has more depth and meaning to me than Imagine or Stairway to Heaven. So do One Eyed One Horn Flying Purple People Eater, Witch Doctor, The Mouse and of course They're Coming to Take me Away.

I hate how liberals will play that stupid song (Imagine) at funerals or other solemn occasions as if it’s a secular hymn.
In Florida you could get a special "Imagine" tag, for an extra $25 fee. Like George Carlin once said, you can come out with anything and some schmuck will buy it.

There is nothing wrong with Imagine other than the content of the lyrics. I would nominate this song as the most evil song ever.
