Iraq Moves Its Thermobaric Rocket Tanks to Mosul
War is Boring ^ | October 26, 2016 | Robert Beckhausen

Iraqi troops fighting for Mosul’s outskirts have brought along one of their most fearsome weapons — the 60-ton, Russian-made TOS-1A Buratino. A photograph and tweet from the Jerusalem Post’s Seth Frantzman shows Iraqi troops posing with the rocket launcher near Bartella, a battle-scarred Assyrian Christian town less than 10 miles from Mosul. Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service troops took over the town on Oct. 20, one of dozens freed since the offensive began Oct. 16.

The Russians will stick anything on a T-72 chassis, won’t they?

If we had a REAL Commander in Chief instead of a muzzie usurper, these would be sitting ducks for some laser guided weapons - ask Saddam.

Same thing the Germans did with their tanks. They turned their obsolete tanks into tank destroyers and mobile artillery.

As I understand the basic media narrative, it goes like this:

1) Assad is a butcher who is attacking Aleppo and indiscriminately killing women and children and civilians.

2) Iraqi and US forces are liberating Mosul with thermobaric rocket tanks in order to push terrorists out of the city.

White hats and Black hats. And things are not always as they appear.

Used effectively in Chechnya. Syria. And Ukraine. Now US will get blamed for any “collateral damage.” As we support the Iraqi/Kurdish re-take of Mosul.

---have always been curious about the dispersal mechanics --seems like it would be extremely difficult to achieve anywhere near a uniform explosive mixture with a detonation--

--anybody know anything about how this is achieved?

Pretty well, when you consider that the Russians alone lost approx. 170000 tanks, and who knows how many other vehicles and armor. Obviously the cause of destruction ranges from infantry to artillery to air-support to armor, but the fact remains that the Germans were nothing to sneeze at when it came to killing enemy armor.

Pretty well. The Red Army lost about 4 times the number of tanks that Germany produced 41-45. Red Army tank losses appx 83,500, German tank production 41-45 appx 24,000 (Eastern Front losses including TD and Assault Guns about 34,000). Add in western front losses of approximately 3,000 French, almost 16,000 British, and about 7,000 American compared to about 17,000 German.

The Germans made very good use of captured French and Czech armor.

It works. They use a proven chasis, where we do a study and tweak things to death to make an all new vehicle ten years later.
