On Tuesday night, Stephanie Jaegers called her husband. She was having abdominal pain, she told him, and she needed to go to the hospital. She thought she had kidney stones.
So Michael Jaegers and his wife went to a hospital near their home in Stockbridge, Georgia, they told WMAZ. Once they arrived, however, doctors quickly realized Stephanies pain was not the result of any kidney stone. She was about to give birth.
The only thing was, Stephanie Jaegers didnt even know she was pregnant, much less 38 weeks along and ready to deliver.
Needless to say, the news came as a shock to the couple.
There are no words to describe the range of feelings associated with being told that you're having a baby in 30 minutes, Michael said to WMAZ.
At 3:50 a.m. Wednesday, Stephanie gave birth to a 7-pound, 3-ounce, healthy baby boy. They named him Shaun Jude.
But how, one might ask, does a woman go 38 weeks without realizing shes pregnant?
First of all, Stephanie already had three children; two boys, aged 16 and 11, and a girl, 2. After her last child, Michael said in a Facebook post, doctors told her she would probably not be able to have another.
Then, doctors diagnosed Stephanie as pre-menopausal, which accounted for her hormone imbalance.
On top of that, baby Shaun was breech throughout the pregnancy, meaning his head was where most fetuses feet are. That prevented him from moving and kicking, and also meant Stephanie did not show as much. She also continued to menstruate throughout the pregnancy, rare but possible.
And lastly, Stephanie broke her ankle several weeks prior to the birth, limiting her movement.
So all of that added up to a very surprising bundle of joy. Stephanies ankle is still broken, so Michael said the family will be relying on their older sons to help out with their younger siblings early on. A friend also started a GoFundMe page to help the family deal with its unexpected medical expenses.
In the meantime, no word yet on if Shaun Jude and his parents have been contacted by TLCs show, I Didnt Know I Was Pregnant.
Now my wife last gave birth in 1997, and maybe things have changed, but by the time she was ready to give birth everybody around us could see she was pregnant.
There were several reasons why this woman did not show, or know she was pregnant, all plausible. The baby was breech for one thing.
I don’t see a picture of this lady. Maybe she was sort of hefty to begin with, so didn’t notice the extra 7 lbs.
On the same website, is another story about Ebony Little, a woman who was trying to hit somebody with her car after an argument. She missed her target, over corrected near the side walk and was launched into on-coming traffic, where her car was hit. The car rolled over and killed Ms. Little instantly.
Karma, it can be a real bitch!
Nope, this lady was definitely not hefty. Checked their facebook page.
Stephanie's second child was eleven years ago. Maybe she forgot what it was like to be pregnant.
Girl on my high school cross country team didn’t know she was pregnant until very late. She’d only ever had sex once at spring prom, was a high mileage running fanatic, carried it very high, and put on very little weight. Wasn’t until they were testing her for mono during the winter that they thought to do a pregnancy test. I don’t remember the baby details but i don’t think things went well and it was thirty years ago...
its possible to still have them. Or f you’re not regular to begin with
So yeah, imagine carrying around a 40-pound sack of concrete mix wherever you go, day and night. Not noticing you've gained 40 pounds seems, well, strange.
But talk about a baby that's pleased t'meetcha, tickled pink!!
A long time ago there was a TV show with the name “I didn’t know I was pregnant”
There were a bunch of stories each week.
Sweet!
Mom doesn’t exactly look thrilled in that picture. Baby, on the other hand, looks delighted to have pulled one over on Mom. Bet he’ll be a handful.
What a beautiful little boy!
He looks like his mom
What a precious little face.
Our last baby was breech, she was all over the place.
i’m sure... but this woman didn’t feel the baby move the entire time up to this point?
i have a problem with that
