The Swedish Academy admitted Monday that it has "given up" trying to reach Bob Dylan to inform him about his Nobel prize in literature.

"Right now we are doing nothing," academy secretary Sara Danius told Swedish state radio SR. "I have called and sent emails to his closest collaborator and received very friendly replies. For now, that is certainly enough."

Beyond informing the songwriter of his momentous achievement, the Nobel prize committee had hoped to invite Dylan to their Dec. 10 banquet in Sweden. But Dylan's mum on that too, leaving organizers to wonder if he'll stand up King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

This is a worthy selection; any backlash has come from ignorant, arrogant knotheads. Hope Dylan accepts the award and attends the ceremony... “Thanks, King.”

Bob Dylan is my kind of celebrity. He keeps his mouth shut.

Oh, so now Putin and the russkies are interfering with the not so noble nobel prize? More than likely it’s really Martians. I’m sure the lyin’ king would be more than happy to accept on Bob’s behalf.

Dylan's music & lyrics are amazing. He could have been awarded the Nobel prize for just this one song:

Desolation Row

why would Dylan be associated with past imbecile and lying “winners” such as Algoro and obamatard? I doubt he shows up. He just had a wicked setlist at Desert Trip at Indio 3 weeks ago so I can understand he’s tired from that..

He’s playing in Thackerville OK, Saturday night. They could just buy some high dollar backstage access tickets and talk to him there.

Perhaps Dylan heard about Obama’s Nobel and decided he’d rather have the toy from a Cracker Jack box.

He played a concert in El Paso Texas last night.

You've just got to get thru his security to speak with him.

There was an episode of Pawn Stars where Chumlee was trying to get Dylan’s autograph.

Looked to me he had a hard time contacting the guy from five feet away.

Oboomba, al-Gore, & Peanut Boy were given the Peace prize, awarded by Norway. The prizes in other fields, including Literature, are awarded by Sweden. Yes, the Swedes also have made controversial picks, and even Dylan’s is seen as controversial by some (not by me). Wouldn’t it be nice to see a deserving recipient, and an American one at that?

He wouldn’t have been my choice but like Paul Simon put it 50 years ago, “The thing Dylan has going for him is his mystique.”
