Love the Indians! So glad they made it to the show...again.

I pray they win it all this time. Such a great time to live in Northeast Ohio.

Wish they would have won in the 90's when we lived there....our sons loved going to the games, the some of the best fans in the league. We were fortunate enough to be at field day on the 100 year anniversary of the team. We got some really great autographs that day and met some truly amazing Indian alumni.

Your comment again wasn't addressed to me but you mentioned Andrew Miller. I don't know about the history of MVPs awarded to relievers but if you haven't yet had a chance to see Miller in action, you will if your Cubs make it to the Series.

The guy is incredible; I've never seen anyone quite like him. He's a tall lefty with a fastball and a devastating slider, and good control. You have to see it all in action.

Your Cubs would be a good match for the Tribe; but, there is something about these Indians.

That very famous play is not what I was talking about, I’m talking about an earlier play that is never mentioned.

With an 0-1 count Ray Knight hit a roller along the third base line, Boggs moved toward it but let it go foul (and Knight singled in a run on the next pitch), my question is if he charges it and fields it in fair territory would he have had a chance at getting Knight at first base? If he had that would have ended the series, if not then it would have been bases loaded for Mookie. If Buckner had made his play then the game would have gone to another inning as it was tied at that point.

Thanks for stimulating me to relive a bit of fascinating history.

First, I need to correct something above that I said that is wrong, as you noted. If Buckner had made his play at first, the 10th inning would have ended in a 5-5 tie forcing an 11th inning.

My comment about Boston winning is wrong; who knows what would have happened in an 11th inning.

About the play that you are referring to... if Boggs had fielded the roller to third before it went foul; I didn't remember the play but I watched the video; thanks for the link.

It's hard to be sure from that vantage point, but, as a general rule, an infielder in such a situation will generally pick up the ball and make the play if he is reasonably confident of getting the out.

The ball made it almost to the third base bag and I suspect that Boggs likely was not confident of making an out. So, I'll go with his instincts and say that he probably would not have made the play. We will never know for sure.

And it’s not just a long wait for individual fans, but it was a completely different world the last time the Cubs won or even came close to a championship. Back in 2008 some Chicagoans had a website that was something like “this day in history the last time the Cubs won the World Series.” Very interesting.

I remember their fans didn’t want the Cubs to win the playoffs down in Florida against the Marlins. They wanted to win it at home. There reasoning was, “they can’t beat Prior and Woody, not back to back they can’t”.

Have Charlie Sheen throw out the first pitch dressed as Ricky Vaughn. There would be no pressure on the guy as any bad pitch would just be the ‘Wild Thing’.

There is actually a push from fans here to get the Indians to have Sheen throw out the pitch. It was serious enough to have Sheen tweet a response. He said Major League is “the gift that keeps on giving” and that “if called upon, I’d be honored”.
