LEWISBURG -- It was a winter forecast that brought a roar of approval from youngsters at the 20th annual Woolly Worm Festival.
"It's going to be terrible," event founder Mike Glazer said under his breath Saturday as he looked at the information provided him by the eight judges who examined four caterpillars.
He then read the winter forecast to a crowd in Hufnagle Park in downtown Lewisburg:
"The winter will come on slowly," he said. December will not be bad but "once January and February hit its going to be severe.

That is because they are super sensitive to increases in carbon dioxide

75 in MPLS today. Ran over a couple of those wooly worms on the way home from work tonight.
Should be a warm winter...

With some exceptions, there appears to be an overwhelming number of locations with record acorn drops. This is just one of many signs of a hard winter. As we enter October, we will want to switch gear and start to find and observe woolly bear caterpillars. These critters can be found in driveways, sidewalks and near buildings. When you see a caterpillar note: If there is a narrow orange band in the middle of the Woolly Bear caterpillar, it warns of heavy snow. If they are fat and fuzzy expect bitter cold. ~Old Farmer's Almanac

If Trump wins on November 8th, I will sleep in a bucket of ice if it helps any weather worriers get over their severe winter fears.
Our county hangs in the balance...the weather is the least of our worries.

What about the deluge of acorns?
When the autumn ground becomes its own skating rink, everybody gets a lot of practice. Hmmm...

It was 86 in Kansas City today but the woolly worm I saw last week was pure black, no brown rings at all. Last couple of winters have been very mild, we’re due for a severe one.

My husband says that he saw one at the end of September in Pennsylvania, and it was completely black.
What does that mean?
