What man has never told an off-color joke? Or listened to an off-color joke? Or laughed at an off-color joke? If that's you, then you can rightly be offended by Trump's decade-old remarks. Otherwise, just shut up.
Ooh, ooh, I know one!
It starts, “There was an old bitch from Chappaquah...”
When I was in the 1st grade: “What’s black on white and red all over?”
Most men...and women have joked around as Trump did in the video. What is telling is the exaggerated response from the media and the ridiculous that it is sexual assault. The level of hatred is appalling.
..... Myself .... I know they all talk like that because I am present at these conversations on many occasions .... and little furry kitties are the mildest phrases used.
And yet as much as it bothers the politically correct feminists, and no doubt seems unthinkable to a lot of conservative, religious women, there are a number of women who do exactly what Trump was talking about. They are attracted to powerful, successful, and famous men and they are willing to have casual sex with them. They do way more than grab packages. Ask anybody who has worked back stage at a rock concert, or ask NBA basketball players, or film stars like Warren Beatty or Jack Nicholson.
Or even a lot of politicians.
Only the George Burns/Oprah joke.
I told some, heard some, laughed at some, and some went right over my head.
What Trump talked about, Bill Clinton did. And more. With his wife standing by his side.
I agree with you. Trump should not have apologized. Instead, he should have simply said that most men talk that way when they are off-the-record, around other men. No disrespect is intended.
And then he should have added: Anyone who is offended by my remarks should stick to watching Saturday morning cartoons, and should avoid the real world entirely.
Sure. I have both told and laughed at off-color jokes and humor. I would guess that most honest people have.
The problem is two-fold, as I see it.
On one hand is the incessant, creeping, insidious censorship of political correctness that constantly, like a one-way ratchet, or the coils of a python, takes away speech and never gives it back.
On the other hand, but related, is the liberal utopian notion that we can live in a safe, stress-free, violence-free, insult-free world. It is the idea that physical safety can be guaranteed, and that human nature doesn’t exist, both preposterous and dangerous concepts. Preposterous because on the face of things, evil exists and cannot be legislated out of existence, and dangerous, because sticking our heads in the ground and thinking that if we can wish hard enough and legislate enough, and be kind enough, there won’t be people who harm other people.
The last paragraph may seem irrelevant, but it isn’t, because tied into that is the liberal idea that people should never, ever be offended.
These two things, hand in hand, are the doom of humor. Look at what passes for humor now. Contrast it with a movie like “Blazing Saddles”, which could never be made today.
No. I am convinced that the more un-politically correct someone is, the more I will trust them.
And they are certain to have a better sense of humor.
Me too. And the older I get the more successful I am at it. But I will not pass judgement a person based on a few off-color comments or jokes. What matters is how the person acts when it really matters.
Trump has passed that test, IMO.
I once saw an interview of Ian Fleming. It was maybe 15 minutes of black and white film, maybe a little shorter.
One of the questions was why did he never use profanity in his books. Fleming joked about his straight laced Scottish ancestors but eventually just said that he didn’t like profanity.
When asked if he personally ever used any, he admitted that he sometimes did on the golf course.
Despite that he used plenty of double entendres (is that spelled right?) such as “Pussy Galore”.
But if one substitutes humor in here, it is more of a fit for me:
"..."Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl..."
Guilty on all counts.
Put me out of my misery and hang me from the nearest yardarm. /s
What’s the difference between a blonde and a washing machine?
You can dump a load in a washing machine on a Friday night and it won’t call you all weekend!
Thanks, I’ll be here all week, make sure you tip your waitress.
Who gets to the $100 first?
Well of course it's the dumb ???
Why you ask?
Because there's no such thing as Santa Claus, there's no such thing as the Easter Bunny, and there's no such thing as a smart ???.
Feel free to replace the question marks however you like. I personally enjoyed this joke more because it was a clever twist on logic than offensive to ???'s.
But I guess that still makes me deplorable.
I think the lynch mob began back in 1983 when Howard Cosell said of a wide receiver on Monday Night Football "That little monkey gets loose, doesn't he". Now Howard Cosell was one of the least racist people on the planet, did more for black athletes than just about any other sportscaster, but they lynched Cosell over it anyhow and his career was never the same.
Then a few years later, it was "Jimmy the Greek" that had his career ruined over similar comments. Something along the lines that blacks were better athletes because they descended from slaves. OK, a pretty stupid thing to say but a simple apology (which he immediately offered up) would have sufficed. But no, the politically correct lynch mob demanded his scalp and they got it.
Our country has gone downhill ever since.
