Thank goodness you’re the last of your species.

[Toughie’s death serves as a reminder of the many species that have been wiped out “before people even knew” that they were there.]
One less species to exploit.

More than 99 percent of all species, amounting to over five billion species, that ever lived on Earth are estimated to be extinct. Estimates on the number of Earth's current species range from 10 million to 14 million, of which about 1.2 million have been documented and over 86 percent have not yet been described. -from Wiki

With no "Mrs Toughie" , extinction was inevitable !

It’s unfortunate that this frog species is now extinct, but I wouldn’t term it a ‘crisis’. This is part of the circle of life and death. All that has been created will one day be gone in the form you now see it. Eventually, we too as homosapiens will be gone in our present form.
Many speculate that within a few decades, there will be an immersion of biologic and technological properties to produce what will then be called a Human Being. Not quite a $6 Million Dollar Man, but maybe a $2 Million Dollar Man, capable of communicating with , and living with similar beings.

Eventually, we too as homosapiens will be gone in our present form.Sooner rather than later, given the huge advances in technology.
I expect cyborgs.

I saw several of these down by Al Gore’s house.
I think he eats them.
Al Gore is a filthy, stinking frog-eater.

Millions of species went extinct before we knew what they were.
It is the height of arrogance to think that humans can prevent extinction when that just might be nature’s plan.

Has anybody seen, my good friend Toughie? Can you tell me where he’s gone?

Which reminds me to ask; Why are Frenchmen sometimes called
‘Frogs’?. This is not a riddle. I’m just wondering where that came from.
