There is plenty of extracinematic material to chew over in considering Nate Parker’s The Birth of a Nation—the film’s rapturous response at Sundance, the way it rode over the horizon and onto the awards scene just as the movie industry was grappling with #oscarssowhite, the emergence of the story of Parker’s 2001 trial for rape—but let’s start with the sheer bravado of the movie’s title. Parker’s gambit in nicking the title of the 1915 D.W. Griffith Civil War epic now remembered less for its brilliant cinematic innovation than for its vile racism is plain: to take back not just film history but American history, to give the nation a second chance at birth.

So another Hollyweird hit job against history. Sort of ironic as the original "Birth of the Nation" sanctified the KKK this movie sanctifies a slave revolt that butchered women and children.

Never go to a movie expecting accuracy in history; same thing goes for news for truth.

Hollywood makes movies, not documentaries. Fact is of interest to them only as long as it fits their story.

Race riots broke out due to DW Griffith’s “Birth of a Nation”.

Are playwrights or novelists interested in truth?

In reading the original reviews of BoaN, it was groundbreaking, but the story was overtly racist.
I’ve never been able to appreciate the film making quality, if the story is a POS.

Race riots broke out due to DW Griffith’s “Birth of a Nation”.

Dozens of whites were beaten, including one young boy into a coma and permanent brain damage, after black theatergoers watched Mississippi Burning in 1988. But this firm not only tells massive lies about the actuay Turner Revolt, but portrays gruesome butchery of Whites onscreen.

I dislike the timing and motives of the movie. And it’s designed to assist BLM.
But it was a deft move to use that title.
And sorry, if you capture me and enslave me, I will happily kill the slave master, his spawn and as much of his society as I can manage. I can’t really fault the participants in the rebellion. It’s a new height of arrogance to fault the enslaved for rebelling a bit too violently.

In fact, its a level of arrogance one would normally associate with the British.

Plays and novels are works of fiction by definition. I imagine the movie represents the truth...as they see it. And as far as it fits their tale.

I'm not defending them. But anyone who goes to a movie that says it's "based on a true story" shouldn't be surprised if it's loosely based on a true story.

For postmodernist libtards, reality is unknowable, and what we think is reality is mere illusion or appearance. So they don’t believe in one overall truth.
And the narrative that supports the libtard agenda is more important than reality and the truth.

I agree.

But this time the slave-masters have done it by taking $20 trillion in your name, promised against your (and you children's) future work via taxes (which are compulsory) and then excusing themselves by saying that it's not involuntary servitude because by electing officials you are submitting yourself to their authority.

I have no intention of seeing this movie. For one thing, it would be a long walk to my car after the movie is over. For another, the writer/director is a rapist scumbag. For another, the movie is BLM propaganda, and I can get enough of that by watching an NFL game.

But I am not bothered too much by the inaccuracies of the film. Hollywood has churned out that kind of stuff from the get-go, with films like They Died With Their Boots On, Jesse James, etc. The author mentions Braveheart. A fine film, IMO, but not particularly accurate. Showing the good while omitting the bad is the norm with movies.

Exactly, Braveheart was far less accurate than this one sounds to be from the inaccuracy complaints. And Died with their Boots on was very inaccurate.
At least died with their boots on was actually a rallying movie for WWII, and was a massive apology to the Indians.
lots of good intent there.

I think this Birth of a Nation is meant to provoke violence. Id avoid it like the plague just for personal safety.

Nate Turner butcher 60+ innocient women and children for the sole crime of being white.

He is a racist mass murderer.

All plays, novels, and films play fast and loose with the facts. It’s unavoidable.

I was thinking more in personal terms, rather than going Nat Turner because the government debt is so obscene. I think I might just vote Trump instead. I was thinking what one might do if captured, and taken to Saudi Arabia where they were then worked worked as a slave. If you could manage it, how violent would you be as you killed your master, and moved to free others?

I can’t fault the rebel slaves.
