The biggest problem UT has on the field right now is twofold.
First, the defense has tackled very poorly and especially the young secondary. They are giving up way too many points. Vance Bedford (former UT defensive back) has been relieved of his duties as defensive coordinator and Strong has taken on that role in addition to head coach.
Second, both starting running backs went out with injuries in the last game and UT tried to stay with the run and short passes too long. With an extra week to get ready for the first Big 12 game the result was hard to take.
Having said that, the firing rumors may be as much of a wake up call than anything. Strong been the subject of the same rumor each year he’s been at Texas. At any rate, another poor season like last year may very well end his time at UT. One thing to keep in mind however is that he is an excellent recruiter. Over the last two years UT has signed top classes nationally. Strong’s first recruiting class was a bust but that’s what happens when the new head coach signs late in the recruiting process. Strong coached Louisville for four seasons and the last time I checked, he left that program in pretty good shape.
Can anybody in the Big 12 play defense?
I said before this season that a bowl game would keep Charlie around one more year. I still believe that. But, losing to Ok St makes getting there substantially harder... as does, losing Foreman and Warren.
One question I have for you: Why is it, that our program has been so EPICALLY bad since the first airing of the LHN? Is that just coincidence? Or, is this damn TV network hurting us somehow?
