Their ‘73 - ‘81 period was good, and occasionally (on individual songs) rose to the level of their ‘68 - ‘72 peak. After Tattoo You (’81) it was all over, imo. But every few years they record a song or two that harkens back to their original greatness.
As a live band, however, they’ve continued on at a very high level, and in some ways even got better over the decades. Mick became a better singer, for one. He’s always been a very hard worker.
Yep, this latest blues release takes us back to the early ‘60s when they were mostly a blues covers band. And a pretty darn good one at that. Not up to the level of John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, but still very good. (Just my opinion, of course).
I saw Mayall with Mick Taylor in ‘82 or ‘83 at the Roxy in L.A., and man what a show that was.
You don't put Voodoo Lounge in some of their greatest work?
And Steel Wheels was at least good.
I wonder if they will do 2120 Michigan ave ever again
There’s a good 2 LP release of everything the Rolling Stones ever cut at Chess Studios in the 60s.
I can’t find the whole thing on youtube and cannot vouch for the fidelity of the clips that are there.
