With just 39 days to go in the 2016 presidential race, there is seemingly little that cable news networks and pro-Democrat media watchdogs can do to stop the momentum of Donald Trumps campaign. Media outlets and fact checkers have pored over every nook and cranny of Trumps businesses and campaign since last July; theyve waited with bated breath for Trump to say something unforgivable at a rally or a fundraiser.
But seemingly none of it has worked. While the race remains nail-bitingly close in several battleground states, Fridays Los Angeles Times tracking poll has Trump up six points on Clinton nationally, well outside the polls margin of error.
Fast forward to Wednesday, when Saturday Night Live announced that frequent guest-host Alec Baldwin, fresh off of a stint hosting ABCs reboot of Match Game, would play the role of Trump throughout the entirety of the shows upcoming 42nd season.
Baldwin who has guested on the program a record 16 times is no stranger to the shows political sketches. He appeared in a 2008 skit alongside Tina Fey, who played former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in perhaps the shows most influential depiction of a politician ever.
In fact, it was Fey herself who suggested Baldwin for the Trump role to SNL producer Lorne Michaels earlier this summer, Michaels told the Hollywood Reporter in an interview this week.
We were talking about who should do it, Michaels told THR. And [Fey] said, Well, the person that should really play it is Alec. And I went, Yeah!
NBC released a teaser trailer for its October 1 season premiere along with the announcement of Baldwins casting on Wednesday. The promo hypes a matchup between Baldwins Trump and Kate McKinnons Clinton in what will almost surely be a send-up of Monday nights presidential debate.

SNL is only watched by stoned liberals. Every time I tried to watch it, it sucked.
SNL is watched only by Liberals. They’ll be joking, to the extent they are even funny, to the choir.
Trump will probably be watching, and he'll have more people laughing at his Twitter posts about Alec Baldwin than NBC will have watching the show.
I might even open a Twitter account just to "follow" Trump on this one.
And Kate McKinnon’s Hillary has always sucked - she seems to make NO effort to improve it season over season. Ugh.
So everything that Baldwin says will be blamed on Trump? I don’t get it? How is a comedians sick humor supposed to insure a Trump loss?
Will the Hillary campaign report Baldwin’s compensation as a donation?
“SNL is watched only by Liberals”
Just like those geniuses who were watching “Ow, My balls” in Idiocracy. Now they’re wetting themselves just by the word “trump”, they’ll be trained to start laughing like circus animals.
They foolishly got rid of the best Trump imitator Darrell Hammond, I think. I expect Alec to be so boorish and crude in his portrayal, that it won’t be as effective. Alec will mostly be portraying himself, but under a Trump wig. Darrell was a good actor, while Alec is a good entertainer. Not the same thing.
BTW, Alec Baldwin was terrible on the Match Game.
And so were the celebrity panelists.
However, it seems he is a stranger to the truth....
take a look at what Saturday night did to Sara Palin. I think the left believes they can repeat that with Trump.m If I was Trump I would Hire some comedians to portray the writers room where the jokes are made about him. I bet that some really good ridicule of the writer would have an interesting effect on there ability to lampoon trump.
Killed my TV 20 years ago.
That jerk Alec whats-his-name left the country years ago!
...never mind
Last time I saw Baldwin, he looked like a bloated sac. Perhaps Trump can don a fat suit and trump Baldwin’s ace...
Millions believe Sarah Palin actually said ‘I can see Russia from my porch’. It was really Tina Fey on SNL. SNL watchers aren’t that bright as to make the leap that it is really Baldwin making the statements on SNL.
Gee and SNL wont be conveying Hillary Clinton in a bad light..gee I wonder why..no one and I mean NO ONE watches SNL anymore its a joke of a program..and seriously if someone gets turned off by Trump because of a comedy show it doesn’t say much about our country does it
And so were the celebrity panelists.
No later version has matched the Gene Rayburn years (73-82).
