Just remembered you want to keep it under $1K. IMO, curved screens aren’t worth it. 3D isn’t worth it. 4K probably isn’t worth it right now. But OLED is definitely worth it. And a smart TV is worth it (of course, it depends on how you want to use it)...

Anyway, here’s Google’s Shopping result:

https://www.google.com/search?output=search&tbm=shop&q=oled+tv&oq=oled+tv&gs_l=products-cc.3..0l10.3529.6694.0.7463.7.7.0.0.0.0.76.492.7.7.0....0...1ac.1.64.products-cc..0.7.492.uhltIX46K2k

Notice at the bottom of the “Popular” TVs is a $1149 OLED LG. Close, but it’s curved (not worth it). Check the stores and take a look at one of these things in person. Good luck and let us know what you buy!

We have two Panasonic Plasma TVs, a 42 inch and a 55 inch. The 42 inch is about 8 years old and runs fine with a LOT of use. The 55 inch is about 3 years old and failed at 16 months. The extended warranty company (Consumer Priority Services) was a REAL pain in the ass. They had somebody come out to the house about a day after the failure, but then things collapsed. The local service company they hired went dark. I had to keep calling them, but they said they wouldn’t talk to me, I had to talk to CPS. They kept saying the parts were on order but about 2 months went by and no parts. Finally they said the spare parts I needed were no longer in inventory because the manufacturer only makes enough to last a year or so for the TV. CPS offered something like $500 for me to go buy an equivalent new TV; the plasma that failed cost me about $2,000 and there was no way I was going to get the equivalent TV for what they offered. I eventually found a local repair shop that was able to get a refurbished board and fix it for about $400. CPS had bumped their offer up to about $650, so I took their cash and pocketed the $150 extra. But they cancelled my warranty after the settlement - they claimed it was in the fine print of the contract.

Bottom line. Panasonic plasmas had fantastic picture quality but reliability problems (not an issue any more because they are discontinued). After-market insurance companies are everything the reviews say about them — largely crooked and only pay off after you raise holy hell for long enough.

I will sell you my 1966 Motorola console color television. Comes with AM-FM tuner and stereo LP record player. The set comes equipped with a seven year old boy trained in how to change channels and operate the antenna rotor controls. The antenna and antenna rotor motor however are not included. Good luck on finding vacuum tubes. / sarcasm

VIZIO, but not the newest versions that do NOT have a TV tuner.

Their 50+ inch sets have 4-5 HDMI ports. Their ‘smart’ TVs are supposed to have all of the latest apps.

Depending on the model type, they have real remotes.

I bought a 32” 720p widescreen VIZIO in 2008 and it is still has a crystal sharp picture. I had to replace the remote a few months ago and found one via Amazon.com for $7.

Second choice would be LG.

SamJUNK is on my ‘Never buy another piece of junk from them’ list. One month after a Win7 I-7 laptop warranty ended, the motherboard died. They don’t make replacements, so I have an $800 doorstop. Similar experience with a DVR.

60” is $1,000.00

samsung is probably the best brand of tv right now.

Watching it now:)

Good Luck!

I will add additional info.

I have 4 big screens in my house and one in my welding shop.

All of them are nearly new.....Only one is over 55” and that is the new Vizio in my living room, which was also the least expensive.

The other TV’s are Samsung.

The larger and less expensive Vizio has best features and picture....It is just smart enuff that it comes wifi ready to display Netflix and Amazon and other stuff, but not so smart it has hidden camera and microphone....It is easy to install Kodi player with USB stick and also the outlaw Exedous app to watch everything free in HD.

I love it.

We got a new Samsung 55” last Christmas - about $1200 on sale but included 3D and ultra HD/4k capability - 4 HDMI’s - love the internet linkage - thought we’d have to go for something faster than DSL from the phone company, but the Samsung processor is very fast - movies in less than a minute - happy with the purchase.....

I bought a refrigerator/freezer from Samsung, along with a whole suite of other appliances from them (the dishwasher wouldn’t come on and they wouldn’t come out until I paid an electrician sixty bucks to verify the unit was getting power. It was. It had a bad board. I never got the sixty bucks back). The fridge started having problems and I finally got the number of the area Samsung warranty repair service. When I called, the service said they didn’t have any more ‘credit’ with Samsung, so were not doing service.

It was the only warranty service in the area, so Samsung said they’d give me a check to buy another fridge. I would have lost a couple hundred dollars in the deal so I opted to have it repaired out of warranty, figuring that would be less than two hundred dollars. I’m a little leery of Samsung.

I used to buy the latest and best but they all became obsolete, so this summer i bought a Vizio 65” 4K ultra at Walmart here in Alaska for around $1100. Its the base model but its amazing how god it is! Especially with regular bluray. I’m not sure i’ll ever buy the 4k ultra bluray player.

Try Kodi, too with exodus app....and yes it is for TV, and not just phone or tablet.

Cool! Worth a bookmark, big time! Love that commercial-free programming. I believe the initial premise of cable TV was that we’d pay for their service without commercials. But it seems they followed the government model and inserted ads so they could screw us to death for a few bucks...
