Believe it or not, there was a time when McDonalds not only had the best French fries, made from fresh potatoes, but also had the best milk shakes, made with real ice cream.
That’s the only thing I do not like about In and Out. I tried the fries one time only. They tasted like deep fried card board. I got NOTHING from them. Even Jack in the Box serves better french fries. I go to In & Out for their burgers.
Veggie burgers are delicious with some bacon and a big piece of cheddar cheese on top. :)
Yep, many years ago a lot of places had great fries because of that.
Can we push In N Out to make burgers that are actually as good as their reputation? I can’t believe how over-hyped that place is. I mean OK, they make a solid B- product, but man people talk about them like it’s the best in the world.
Their success, in my humble opinion, rests somewhat on their simple menu. Once they start adding things they will become another McDonalds. Leave the menu alone!

It is amazing how they could start with good fresh potatoes and end up with blah fries. Love their burgers and shakes, though.
By the way, sports bars double fry their (thick) fries. They blanch them in the morning and refrigerate them, then fry them by the portion as needed.
I’m old enough to remember good fries at McDonalds. Canola oil killed them, I understand they use something like sucrose to try to make them crisp like they used to be. Doesn’t help, they still taste bitter from the canola to me.
And lettuce and tomato and pickle and ketchup and mustard and mayo . . .

Falafel burgers ARE a thing, and they’re delicious.
No, I’ve tried In N Out fries repeatedly and they are bland bland bland. The reason why is the oil. Fat (oil) is what gives most food its flavor, and In N Out uses some kind of bland vegetable oil.
Go try some fries at Tommy’s down on Beverly and Rampart and tell me you can’t taste the difference.
