The western constantly changes depending on where we are as a society, Fuqua explained. What I wanted to do was bring it up to date and show people its an exciting genre. It represents who we are, what the promise of the United States is supposed to be.
The 1960 Magnificent Seven itself a remake of Akira Kurosawas 1954 epic Seven Samurai had featured white actors in even some of the non-Caucasian roles, with Eli Wallach playing the bandit leader Calvera and Horst Buchholz as a young Mexican gunslinger named Chico.
In Fuquas remake, by contrast, four of the title heroes are nonwhite, including Washingtons Sam Chisolm; Comanche warrior Red Harvest, played by Native American actor Martin Sensmeier; South

“Yes I know Satan keeps busy.”
He’ll be working overtime Monday night. Watch Hillary’s eyes carefully.
We saw the trailer of this movie last week at the theater. The only music I heard was hip-hop/rap (I don’t know the difference).
The original theme is classic; appears it’s been pushed aside for crap.
Disney is doing the same thing to Madeline L’Engle’s classic A Wrinkle In Time (one of my all time favorite YA novels). It’s an “adaptation” (which means to me that they’re going to change everything L’Engle wrote it for, particularly her marvelous send-up of the leftist mentality). Black director, mostly black cast, the Murry’s are “mixed race” and red-haired Calvin will be played by a black....
Basically, what this is saying, and what the new “Magnificent” is saying, is that the originals got it wrong, they were all about evil white racism.... How many other classics have been racially mangled for the sake of PC? Annie? The Whiz? What others?
Well, already the Magnificent “remake” is getting bad review... I hope it and Wrinkle bomb spectacularly. I don’t have anything against black actors, movies, novels, etc. Just write your own... stop trying to “improve” what is already excellent because it’s not black enough for you.
Believe me, there isn’t a black person alive who is excited to go see A Wrinkle in time”. I hope the makers of the new movie have less guilt and feel good about themselves because they aren’t going to make any money
I actually know the difference! Hip-hop is something they can dance to, and rap is not specifically made for dancing.
“The amount of melatonin in our skin is not relevant.”
But events are shaped by nations, and of those, none of consequence by third worlders.
If he cast people of color and then just let them be human beings it would be watchable but not for FIVE SECONDS of this film would this sort of ASS let anyone forget that wonderful he cast people of color.
Maybe not cowboys as in herders of cattle, but certainly their presence was widely known in the West. When the cavalry appeared just in the nick of time, it was often made up of black troops.
Looks West of the Mississippi to me...
Most Mexicans are actually Indians. The amount ranges from 100 percent to at least half. There are a few families that are almost 100 percent Spanish, that arrange marriages between themselves (for centuries), and they basically run the country.
I guess you missed Bass Reeves.
At least theyre all male; theres that. Im actually astonished they didnt go all PC and throw a girl into the cast.Oops!
American movies are a reflection of America and as America becomes less white, so will our films.
LGBT is 2 percent of the general population, maybe even less. But they may be 20 percent or more in Hollywood and the mainstream. There is a HUGE disconnect between celebrities and journalists and many major corporate honchos, and average Americans. The LGBT agenda is NOT being appreciated at all. Star Trek Beyond should have been a box office monster, but when it was confirmed that Sulu would be gay and “married” to another man the public interest in the film plummeted. Star Wars will not be exempt. G and PG movies are the biggest box office draws because they attract families. And most families do NOT want to see Finn and Poe Dameron kissing each other. If Disney goes that route, they WILL see a massive loss in expected revenue.
Yeah. I saw that chick in the trailer. But she’s not one of “THE 7”, is she?
...The blacks in this country have their own wonderful achievements in our vast society but one of them was not the real wild west...
You forget about the Buffalo Soldiers at Fort Davis, Texas,a black soldier cavalry unit who fought Comanches who attacked and killed settlers travelling West through Texas on their wagons.
Fighting Comanches killing settlers IS the real West, isn’t it?

In the original “Seven Samurai,” the young samurai doesn’t get the peasant girl, because they were of difference classes, but in the original “Magnificent Seven,” the young gun gets the peasant girl, I am guessing in part because Americans like happy endings and in part because it wasn’t considered a class issue in the 1960s, much less today. I wonder what happens in the remake, but not enough to go see it ;-)
