The grasshopper is a clean animal in the bible
Leviticus 11:22 - "Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket or grasshopper."

I had grasshoppers in Puerto vallarta, Mexico, at a very high-class restaurant. The first crunchy bites were pretty good. But it didnt grow on me. I dont plan a repeat performance.I had the same in Toluca, Mexico. A once in a lifetime experience.

I have no interest in intentionally ingesting insects. If I were starving with no other choice, I’d probably eat them but it wouldn’t be a pleasant experience.

Man, that Elliot Mermel could sure belt out a tune!

I don’t eat your food’s food that often, which is also why I tend to shy away from salad.
To quote Ted Nugent, “I like vegetarians. Almost everything I eat are vegetarians, except for the occasional mountain lion steak.”
It’s been quite a while since I’ve feasted on insects. Mostly it was done to freak people out.

I didn’t like the old sushi - to me, raw fish is bait.
I’ll eat California rolls, or the lox and cream cheese rolls, but NFW on the raw fish...and 50 million x NFW on the bugs.

There’s no business like bug business.

I knew that. But notice that it is PERMISSIBLE to eat them, as in not MANDATORY. So anyone else can eat bugs, but not me. Only if I’m literally starving.

Man does not possess or is able to secrete a chitin-ase, the digestive enzyme to break down the hard shell (the bones) of any insect.
Do NOT eat these things.

For what it’s worth... grasshoppers are considered a clean food source. As in, they are not scavengers.

If you eat salad... you are probably eating insects... you just can’t see them. Even thorough washing will not completely rid the vegetables of all the critters.
To: Clutch Martin
I realize insects find their way into any number of foods. I don’t intentionally eat them, though. It’s inadvertent, like accidentally inhaling a gnat.
To: Ancesthntr
I see them more as dried, turned into protein powder, and added to feed.

I’ve had mealworms before and they are actually rather tasty. Takes a whole lot to fill you up though. And you’re hungry in about an hour again.
