Man who lived in Singapore Airport executive lounge for three weeks jailed for fraud

A man has been jailed after he spent nearly three weeks living in Singapore Airport - including the use of the airports executive lounges.

Raejali Buntut, 32, had checked in to the Plaza Premium Lounge in Terminal 1 using his boarding pass and his Priority Pass.

But the former business development manager woke up to find he had missed his flight back to Kuala Lumpur and decided to continue using the facilities at the lounges in the departure transit areas of Changi airport's three terminals.

The court was not told why he wanted to stay at the airport, local media reports.

He used his laptop to forge mobile boarding passes which allowed him access to the airport's lounges. In total he used 31 forged passes and used nine different lounge across the airport's three terminals.

He managed to stay in the airport for 18 days before staff recognised him and called the police.

He was jailed for two weeks after admitting charges of forgery.

I have been in some lounges where I hoped for a delay, just because it was so nice!

Sometimes you can get sucked into gambling in these high fa-looting lounges!

The whole of Singapore is run like a 4 star hotel. I can imagine their airport lounges are even nicer.

Singapore has always seemed like a really, really stupid place to break the law - any law. They really have a thing about their laws over there. They USE them. Regularly.

The Virgin Air Upper Class Lounge at Heathrow is jawdroppingly amazing.

I'd say best airport in the world, but I've never been to Schipol in Amsterdam which I'm told is pretty nice.

The best thing about Changi Airport is the near total lack of lines.

Each set of gates has a metal detector type arch for an entrance and pretty uniformed security gals who will walk around randomly to passengers seated in the boarding area and politely ask to wand you.

Last trip there, the testosterone in me was shouting "You can do a lot more than that, honey" but the head with the brain managed to drown it out with a polite "Yes, ma'am, you may. Shall I stand?" She just smiled and said I could remain seated.

Just this weekend the Team Principal of Ferrari’s F1 team was put in jail for six hours until he was bailed out - just a few hours before the start of the F1 Championship race.

He threw a cigarette butt on the sidewalk.

Among my many memories of Singapore is my very first one...standing in line at the immigration counter. It was a big sign,in several languages (including English),that said “Death To Drug Traffickers Under Singapore Law”.Next to it was,I assume,an “amnesty bin” into which I dropped my sinus medication....just in case.

Illegal immigration calls for caning on the second offense, 6 strokes, I believe.

Children (of course) and people over 50 are exempt. A Singaporean co-worker from a previous life described it to me thus:

The person to be caned is taken to the roof of a police station where the punishment is administered by a martial arts specialist with a rattan cane soaked overnight in water to make it pliable.

The caning is administered on the backside of their bare trunk whilst they are leaning over a rail for support, with a leather apron used to cover their vital organs in the unlikely case of an errant blow.

The skin is torn on the second or third stroke and a medic present will administer a disinfectant mix of mostly rubbing alcohol between strokes until the court mandated number are administered or the medic determines that the risk of serious damage is too great for further strokes.

While the backside scars are permanent, the ability to crap without pain and walk without a limp returns in about 30 days.

I’ve heard that!
I can vouch for the Cathay Pacific First Class Lounge in Hong Kong. Just phenomenal!

US lounges are so, well, meh.

Yup.When I was there I bought a T-Shirt that says on the front "Singapore Is A Fine City" and on the back it looks like this:

But in the city's defense it's a much cleaner, neater and more "orderly" place than Hong Kong.

My last trip back from China was Business Class. I got a pass to the Air China lounge. Nice. It’s depressing going back to Economy+ after that kind of treatment. The flight wasn’t bad, either.

The Changi Airport is the best and I certainly would prefer it to Kuala Lumpur.

Once you sit towards the front it’s hard to go back to steerage. It just confirms how miserable you really are.

Schiphol is my personal favorite in Europe. But nothing outside of Asia comes even close to Changi.
