Yale New Haven Hospital becomes the eighth transplant center and the fifth hospital that gets green light to perform transplantation of HIV-infected organs. The approval is received from the United Network for Organ Sharing. November 2013, President Obama made HOPE (HIV Organ Policy Equity) Act official - allowing organ donor from an HIV patient to another HIV patient.

“To demonstrate that fully autonomous vehicles have a fatality rate of 1.09 fatalities per 100 million miles (R=99.9999989%) with a C=95% confidence level, the vehicles would have to be driven 275 million failure-free miles,” RAND said.

It’s a “civil right” to donate infected organs, don’t you know.

Not worried about that. Anything not disposable is always extensively sterilized. Patients with hepatitis B, C, and HIV get operated on all the time, in most hospitals. The bigger question to me is how immunosuppression for anti-rejection dovetails with HIV, and with HIV meds. Given that this has been done in other places, it has probably not been a problem.

They do realize that there are different strains of HIV, right?

I’d be more worried that an organ from an HIV patient gets mixed up with the healthy organ donation supply. Probably a very slim chance, but a chance none-the-less.

With anti-retroviral medication able to reduce viral loads to “undetectable levels,” I’d be very worried that one would slip through the cracks.

I doubt it. But then again I'm still waiting for the proof that HIV causes anything let alone AIDS.

Color me skeptical. Really skeptical.

It’s not like hospitals ever mess up blood transfusions, right?. Sureeee they can do HIV transplants but why the hell would they want to want to do that?It makes no sense unless they ARE trying to kill you....

Very true, and forcing me to reassess my thoughts on this matter.

But, last year a nearby hospital, and others had sterilization issues with a type of 'scope'.

IIRC they used gas in place of steam as per manufacturer's rec?? Hundreds notified...

As I get older and might just need a hospital some day, they look more frightening.

I don’t think Amazon has human organ supply warehouse with dones aimlessly delivering beating hearts to hospitals.

You know what I mean, “supply” meaning the list of available.

That brings up a point, could they similarly allow HIV infected blood to be put into HIV patients?

Anyone else notice that this new policy effectively moves HIV patients “to the front of the line” for preferential transplants?

Given the ultra low quality of Obamacare I wouldnt want to go anywhere near a hospital who could screw that up because you know they will and you'll be the one on your deathbed, not them. I suspect that many in the socialist run healthcare scheme don't care much about the quality of their work as long as they have a steady paycheck coming in. BTW we have plenty of nurses in our family who have told me some hair raising horror stories about nurses and CNAs neglecting their duties to chat online on their cell phones.
