That’s what used to happen in many small towns across the USA.

Yes, it did. Especially in large parts of the south, west and the midwest, where I grew up. Nobody bothered to lock their doors at night.

You would lock them if you went out of town just so the neighbors would know you were gone. The worst thing that happened is that one of them might mow your lawn because they thought it was a looking a little scruffy. Of course, a lot of those places weren't blessed with much "diversity."

We spent a few days vacationing in east central Tennessee in February. At one museum, I talked to an old black man who told me that the races there had always gotten a long quite well. He said even during the peak of agitation in the mid 1960s, the local blacks would tell the outside agitators to keep moving because they didn't want their kind making trouble. Some of his ancestors had even fought for the Confederacy, not because they thought slavery was a good thing, but they just didn't want outsiders bringing trouble to that part of Tennessee.

Maria, not her real name, now carries out contract killings as part of the government-sanctioned war on drugs.

Right about now, Hillary is wondering how she can import that kind of "labor" to get rid of some of her republican opposition. But, she's already done that kind of hiring in the past, and even the recent past (ask Assange about that).

I hate to hijack this thread but you brought it up.

Loved the movie and Sean Young was hotter then an average replicant. I would have loved to have been stuck in a "Dune" with her her although I'm sure there would be "No Way Out" and if I did get out I'm sure I would have some "Stripes" to show for it.

Hard ta tell about these things.
Was my "loved one" being an idiot and endangering others?

Like I said, I hafta wonder. How many innocents are taken out now with the "hands off" approach we've been running with here in the last decade or so? Would that number be decreased with the more aggressive proactive format currently employed in the Philippines?

Dunno.
