There Is No Fix
The Weekly Standard ^ | From the 6 Sep, 2016 issue | There Is No Fix

Posted on 08/28/2016 3:05:05 PM PDT by MtnClimber

With Aetna’s announcement that it is pulling out of most government-run exchanges, Obamacare's death spiral has begun to accelerate. Few but the sickest or most heavily subsidized people want anything to do with the (inaptly named) Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act's high-priced, high-deductible, narrow-network plans. Insurers are responding to sicker risk pools and bigger losses by raising rates, which makes the plans even less attractive to the young and healthy—which makes the risk pools sicker, which makes the rates rise further. And the spiral continues, like water circling the drain.

No less of an Obamacare cheerleader than the New York Times's Paul Krugman admits this is "genuine bad news" that shows "some real problems are cropping up." Supporter Charles Gaba calculates that the average requested premium hike in 2017 for Obamacare plans is 24 percent. McKinsey & Company, in an analysis done for the New York Times, found that about 1 in 50 Americans didn't have a choice of insurers under Obamacare last year and thereby faced a private monopoly; next year, McKinsey says, it will be 1 in 6. Pinal County, Arizona, is poised to have no Obama-care plan at all.

And these brilliant leftists have a “single payer” initiative on the ballot here in Colorado.

I’m surprised it isn’t law that the insurance companies have to insure, or face a penalty just like us peons.

It’s nice to be a crony capitalist in today’s America.

Maybe the Colorado voters need to hear from Massachusetts residents about their state single-payer system.

Obama hitched his star to a dying ideology.

His legacy will follow this ideology into the mire right behind Venezuela.

Everyone in Congress wjo voted, for this should never be in any position of power at any level, ever again.

Kinda wish we had a french revolution here to clear house and give them an immediate weight loss. That is what its coming to. This has helped destroy the country. They will still sit there and claim succcess.

It is a state supported version of Medicaid. It is required that you have insurance. Mass Health is the version of Obamacare. But I’ve had private insurance through my employer for ages.

If you subscribe to mass health, you are fine if you are hospitalized. But in terms of primary care appointments, they can take forever.

I was never a fan of Romney Care, but it works lot better than Obamacare.

The only fix is to:

1. Repeal obamacare, every word of it as per Ted Cruz.

2. Figure out a way to have the taxpayers (aka the Federal Government) cover every person who had health care covering a catastrophe before obama destroyed that coverage.

3. After that, let the market fix everything else into the future.

4. Have the Federal Government get out of the way.

OH YES THERE IS:

President Trump could easily issue 2 Executive Orders:

1. All Federal Employees and Retired Federal Employees, SHALL enroll in and purchase their own Personal and Family Health Insurance from the Affordable Care Act Exchange in the State they “Legally” reside in. No Taxpayer Funds Shall be used for ANY Health Insurance for ANYONE.

2. Any STATE that does not have ALL PUBLIC EMPLOYEES and Public Employee Retirees enroll in and purchase their own Personal and Family Health Insurance from the Affordable Care Act Exchange in their State, SHALL receive NO FEDERAL FUNDING FOR EDUCATION.

PROBLEM SOLVED, MILLIONS of NEW ENROLLEE’S that are NOT ELIGIBLE for Subsidies will Save the Affordable Care Act, and BANKRUPT THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES NATIONWIDE, A WIN WIN!!

If it is a big company, they are likely self insured and Aetna just administers the plan.
