Looks like "engine failure" is kind of an understatement.

I guess the writer figured the number one engine was the primary. :)

They said the plane will be taken out of service to be checked out.

I can’t imagine any other option.

Around 20 years ago, a plane had an engine fall apart like that...and it damaged hydraulic lines that caused the pilot to lose control. One good reason to land.

I’ve been in an airplane that had an engine catch fire, and they landed it right away in some remote airport - took around 8 hours to get bused back to Atlanta and try again.

The lateral signode appears to have lost its impellance.

Lack of Vaseline on the main bearing.

From the article:

“It was just a big explosion. There was some smoke and then nothing,” a passenger from Oklahoma City who asked not to be identified told KOCO 5. “I saw parts flapping in the wind because it was right outside my window.”

A big explosion? Hmmmm...

Compressor explode? They are indeed lucky that the cabin was not broached or the wing was not severely damaged.

These things fly easily on one engine albeit losing one on takeoff could be fatal. Kudos to flight crew. Is Sully flying again!
