SUMMARY
As a result, Google is at risk to a major security breach, resulting in a exodus of users to Apple's iOS platform.
Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Android 7.0 is finally here! It looks smooth and makes several improvements, but does it actually matter? Most Android users won't see this update for quite some time, as Android updates typically have a very slow adoption rate. Demonstrated below, half of Android users are running their devices on software from 2013 or earlier. Prior to 7.0, only 15.2% of users operate on the most current system,
On the other hand, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been overwhelmingly successful in converting its users to software updates. As of August 15th, 87% of iOS users were on the latest iOS 9 update. Another 10% aren't far behind and operate on iOS 8. Only 3% operate their devices on previous models.

It is so worth the extra cost for an iphone.
Never had problems with any of the ones I have owned.
“Sure you can buy a hamburger for $1. But then you’d have to eat it.”
For whatever reason, Android devices are orphaned by service providers. Tablets not tied to service providers, but still having enough horsepower to run latest versions are often left out of the update stream. Older phones that are migrated out of the primary service providers, to the secondary market are also left out of the update stream.

I have an iPhone 6. Have gone from iOS 8.0 to (soon) 10.0 easily. Will finally retire the phone when the 2017 model iPhone arrives in September 2017.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 running Android 4.4. Never had any problems and don't plan to retire it until it dies or won't run any apps.
This is the biggest problem. No one wants to fork over $400+ every couple of years so they can “upgrade”. My Samsung Tab S can probably handle Android 7 no problem, but I can’t even upgrade to 6 because Samsung has decided that it isn’t included in the upgrade path.
My tablet still works fine, so I have no reason to abandon it just to get a newer OS, not to mention the cost. My device also isn’t tied to a carrier, so I can’t just “trade up” to get something newer with the purchase price folded into my monthly bill where I won’t notice it; I have to buy the entire device out of my own pocket up front.
My at&t androids software us current at 5.1, I guess at&t is behind the times a little.
Everything touched by Human hands has flaws just like the good old ,untouched by Human hands prepared by Military Cooks
This is quite a bit of FUD, but that's OK...
After all, iOS is losing market share (it's about 1/6th that of Android, worldwide) and Samsung consistently outsells Apple in smartphones - and that's not including all the other big players in the market (Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, etc).
My family has all Moto phones. They upgrade to the next android version automatically. So do Google Phones.
I own the LG Nexus 5x with Marshmallow 6.0.1 will get Nougat
7 direct from Google when available. Paid $269.00 for the 32 GB ver. Great piece of Technology.
That’s why, for those w/ an ‘electric-thumb’, there’s the non-official ROM updates.

Have updated by ‘old’ Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablet from 4.4 to 6.x. Plus, I picked a slimmed down version, so I don’t have all the factory bloat-ware either.
My Galaxy S5 (on AT&T) just upgraded to Android 6 this morning.
