There is no excuse for this kind of excess.
I find it ridiculous. But if the voters approved it then that’s on them.
Was it built by slaves? Our White House was . . . Moochie said so!
HS Stadium!!!
Wow!!! I wold have guessed a mil or two to build one.
But what do i know :)
Allen?
I actually believed this article was about the Katy High School stadium with 12000 seats and a jumbotron that was just started outside west Houston.
Does Gilley’s get the snack shack concession?
High school football is a big deal in Texas. Used to be in small town Ohio, too, may be still. I remember Massillon, OH had a huge one decades ago.
“Then, McKinney voters approved the stadium as part of a larger $220 million bond package, but it did not include everything.”
Stupid Democratic politicians, stupid liberal voters.
As long as no Federal dollars are going to pay for construction or maintenance or anything else .... then its up to local taxpayers (or chump State taxpayers) to pay for it. If that is how they want to spend their money, that’s their business.
Non-student tickets in the area are something like $8 at the venue.
If half the stadium is filled by parents and other adults that’s $48K ... students adding maybe a quarter of that, so guesstimate $60k sales (not including concessions or parking) for any football game. Track and field or soccer will bring in considerably less. Still, with parking and concessions a venue like this could easily bring in a half million a year. So at least it pays for its upkeep.
As a business model goes it’s pretty darn weak ... though not as offensive as the stadiums that billionaires and the pros demand these days.
Aside: for the price of one Cowboys ticket I could watch a whole season of high school football AND eat snacks ... frankly, I think we should just cut the pros loose and concentrate on high school and college sports anyway....
The new Dallas Cowboys practice facility is a shared facility with the nine Frisco ISD high schools. The total cost of that facility was $1.5 billion. THAT is expensive. The city owes $60 million, and the school district owes $30 million.
Incidentally, Keller, another Texas town, recently spent 35 million building a learning resource center ... so this kina of money isn’t just for sports.
Lewisville recently spent 700 million rebuilding LHS, where I went.
Making transgender bathrooms and then changing them back again per court ruling, and then changing them again, per executive order ran costs up.
The State of Texas has a lot of good things going for it but their insane love of football is just stupid.
This has to be Allen. They might as well play at AT&T.
Back in the 50s and 60s we had to choose between spending our college tax money on education or sports and e chose sports.
The rest is history. The beginning of the end.
The high school my kids attended was rebuilt a few years back for ONLY $197 million.
Nothing like spending other people’s money.
.
Meanwhile ... in Waco... Baylor GAVE ... for FREE ... it’s old stadium to the city of Waco.
And the city TORE IT DOWN!!!!
unbelievable.
I would bet good money that within 10 years the city will want to build a similar sized stadium and will ask tax payers for the money to do so.
