Anybody have any opinion on FIOS?
I have to endure Comcast - about $98/month for their Internet service. There is no viable competition, of course. All I can do is pray that Google Fiber will see fit to wire my town - about 10 miles down the 85 from their headquarters. Unfortunately, Google is mostly sticking to red states for their fiber rollouts - obviously, Google’s corporate politics don’t stand up to the reality that red states are far easier to roll out infrastructure projects in.

True story. I lived in Yugoslavia (near Belgrade) as a child. Those were about the hours. TV was propaganda news (a lot like our news here now) and Loony Tunes cartoons overdubbed in Serbian with propaganda.
I have been with Verizon for many years. No choice, it’s either Verizon or the communist Comcast. Frontier took over a few months back. I have not noticed much difference. I have there high speed (not) DSL. I never get the advertised speed. But it’s good enough for most things. No way I could watch a movie that had a lot of scene changes without lengthy pauses. However FIOS is suppose to be available soon and I will definitely be jumping on that. All in all Verizon (Frontier) is ok, not great but ok. I paid about 80 for a land line and internet. The land line is not necessary you can ask for a dry loop and still get the DSL. But I like having a backup to my Magicjack VOIP.
