My recollection is that Effi stood by Marion through his trial and then left him, moving, possibly to Florida, to get their son away from all the bad influences in D C. I guess it didn’t work. Sad.
Effi always struck me as a class act and a mother who tried her best to raise her son in that DC cesspool created by her husband and his political party
