It’s a genuine Hillary Clinton classified email server. It’s no big deal.

They had one up on a line near my place before the hackers took it down.

Google Search came up with nothing.

Our electricity poles also carry phone and internet lines.

About once a quarter we end up with a different rectangle shaped black box a few feet from the vertical cross pole and on the wrapped lines for phones and internet lines.

The boxes are basically black about 18” long 8” wide and a few inches thick with no markings on the

None of our neighbors have seen when new ones are put up or taken down. We didn’t have one for a few weeks and about 2 months ago we got another new box. Comcast at that time provided new modems and we now have 5G as well as 2.4.

About 6 months ago, a photo of a similar box was posted on FR that we had at that time. Now we have the latest new one I described above.

There’s a small leak in the power line at that point. The device was put there to catch any electricity that leaks out till they can fix it. When the thing fills up they’ll take it back to the power plant and pour the electricity back into he generator.

It is possible that it is a power factor correcting capacitor.

“I saw a bucket truck out front...Next day this thing was hanging there.”

Well, clearly, FRiend, it is a bucket.
The truck left it there.
Sheesh.

I did a search on that but didn’t see anything that looked similar.

Did find an image of an entire dead deer up on top of a wood telephone/electric pole! (Cougar I suppose dragged it up there?)

And more realistically:

From here: https://www.quora.com/What-is-this-device-seen-on-a-municipal-powerline

“It’s an “overhead fault indicator.” It’s sort of the opposite of what Steve Schafer guessed: it lights up when an excessive current flows in the line. It is used to help the power company troubleshoot faults (short circuits to ground or from one power line to another) in a power system. Protective relays in the distribution system shut off the power when a fault occurs, but it isn’t always obvious where the fault occurred, and that’s where these gadgets come into play.

The more advanced ones have colored lights to indicate different kinds of faults, and some have radio transmitters to send fault information to the power company.”
