Well, I’ll probably get smacked-around by the local nerds for telling you this but, my personal settings for my PC sleep mode is NEVER and I keep it running constantly (unless Bill Gates drops by and wants to tweak my machine) My monitor setting is NEVER and power it off when I walk away from the desk. My laptop (with WIN10) is the same setup.
I won’t give you sleep-time settings. You’ll have to experiment. What I will do is agree with many of the respondents here, get rid of Norton (or IMO, TrendMicro or Kaspersky), memory hogs.
That said, I don’t usually do any wide range surfing; I stay limited to very few sites and even fewer “commercial” sites.
I use Malwarebytes, SuperSpyware and AVG-Free. (AVG is set to scan incoming email to my Outlook) My full-system scan takes about 45 mins, max. All they ever find is tracking cookies. I’m pretty happy with that combo.
YMMV
I actually think you are on to something here. I just reset mine to NEVER and will see what happens. I may have to do two scans because when I started the scan, it appears to first be completing the last one I canceled (it started at file number 200,000+).
CC Cleaner
Kaspersky anti-virus
Malwarebytes
It looks like this worked! I did two scans back to back and I would say that together they were about 1 hour.
I will try this again in about a week and see if I get the same results (I like to do weekly full scans).
THANK YOU!
MRU-Blaster will get rid of all types of tracking cookies. Free, quick and small. You don’t use C Cleaner?
