MIAMI (AP) Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump took a shot Wednesday at Hillary Clinton's running mate, Democratic U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, for doing a terrible job as governor of New Jersey.
The problem, of course, is that Kaine was governor of Virginia.
Her running mate, Tim Kaine, who by the way, did a terrible job in New Jersey," Trump said at a news conference in Miami. "He was not very popular in New Jersey, and he still isn't."
Trump might have confused Kaine with former Republican New Jersey Gov. Tom Kean, pronounced the same as Kaine. Kean led the state from 1982 to 1990 while Trump was building his casino empire in Atlantic City. Kaine was governor of Virginia from 2006 to 2010.
New Jersey also might have been on Trump's mind because its current governor, Republican Chris Christie, was among Trump's finalists for the vice presidential nod that ultimately went to Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

Ha ha ha, ... more whisker tweaking from Trump. And we are going to hear non-stop for this so-called gaffe, and poor Kaine, nobody’s paying attention to you.
So what? He immediately corrected himself.
I saw a picture of him and his wife when they were young. They looked like hippies to me.
I think being constantly on the “road” (so to speak) for long periods of time is enough to make anyone a bit punchy.
I remember hearing a story years ago about an air marshal who woke up in the middle of the night in his hotel room. Not only did he not know what city he was in, he didn’t even know what country he was in.
It wasn’t until he got up out of bed, turned on the light, and opened the desk drawer did he realize he was in Madrid, Spain (thanks to the hotel’s stationery).
Someone must think it matters somehow.
Trump should have said “Kaine was a terrible governor of one of the 57 states...I just can’t remember which one.”
“Trump goofs” is another way of saying “Hillary chooses someone so obscure and unaccomplished than no one remembers where he is from”.
Its so petty of them to make a stink about this when he quickly corrected himself and said Virginia. I guess none of the press propagandists have ever misspoke for a few seconds.
I heard that! Oh, man it was yuuuuuuuge! /sarc

Kaine is such a nobody no one knows where the heck this guy is from
“the bomb that fell on Pearl Harbor”
Someone should remind MSDNC of Obama’s 57 states remark
Got him a story in US News/AP.
ANYBODY who has travelled a lot has that experience. More than once I’ve woken up and tried to figure out where I was.
There was a governor Tom Kane of NJ.
**********
That was Tom Kean, the 48th Governor of New Jersey from 1982 to 1990.
Everything Trump says and does is news and Trump knows it. The media will predictably report that Trump “goofed” thereby amplifying more attention towards him on a night that should be focused solely on Hillary. With Trump you can never predict his actions. My guess is this was a calculated and purposeful”goof”. Everyone’s paying attention to it and that was the desired effect Trump wanted.
As Obama himself could tell you, New Jersey is the 57th state. How could Trump not know this!
Tonight I listened to Trump's speech in Davenport, Iowa today and as someone who has listened to dozens of this speeches I must say he has improved considerably in his ability to maintain an extemporaneous, relaxed conversational presence before his audience. Not that he ever had problems speaking extemporaneously, but now he has honed that ability to a fine edge. He really is so much better without the teleprompter because when he uses a teleprompter he can not hide the fact he is speaking from a script, especially when everyone knows what his normal relaxed speaking style is like. I am certain the Hildabeast will not be able to come close to this guy in the final stretch.
Well, at least he knew it was one of the 57 in the US....
