Neo-Nazi gets makeover to hide tattoos from jury

As potential jurors enter Courtroom 11D at the Regional Justice Center for a robbery trial on Monday, they will not see the teardrop tattooed just below defendant Bayzle Morgan’s right eye.

They will not see the swastika within a clover under the 24-year-old’s left eye. Nor will they see the words “Most Wanted” across his forehead.

The “Baby Nazi” tattoo on his neck will be hidden, as will the Iron Cross on the back of his bald head, along with two more white supremacist tattoos where his eyebrows should be.

In an unusual move, District Judge Richard Scotti has ordered the concealing of Morgan’s tattoos from the neck up.

“The goal is to make sure we can get a jury to at least give him a fair trial,” defense attorney Dan Bunin said.

One potential juror reported feeling “nervous” and “shaky” last month after seeing Morgan’s teardrop tattoo, while another told the judge that Morgan’s tattoos “could be indicative of previous criminal acts.” Others said the tattoos gave them a “negative feeling” or a preconceived notion about Morgan’s guilt.

We wouldn't want to prejudge the murdering, neo-nazi SOB.

Aryan Brotherhood? I think they claim shamrocks, even harassing Irish inmates who have them, if not members.

Actually, I wouldn’t have seen a swastika there if I hadn’t been tipped off.

He ran around freely like this, why hide it? It is who he advertised he is.

A fair trial does not cover up relevant information.

I say that for all racists, black and hispanic and asian, gang tattoos and racist tattoos.

Dermablend, probably. It’s used to hide scarring, birthmarks, etc.

Yep. We're not into actually prosecuting Crimethink...yet. For all of me he could want to rebuild Auschwitz all day every day, but as long as he did not commit an overt act, he is innocent.

Try, and acquit or convict, on the evidence of his acts, not by the jury's reaction to his face.

If I saw something like that crawling out from underneath my kitchen sink, I’d step on it.

Would think they would be important identifiers. Judge tampering with evidence?

I agree with you on principle but not in practice.

The man chose by his own free will to present himself to the world with those tattoos - he put them on his face in places nobody could miss them, to advertise these qualities he saw in himself.

To present him to a jury with his self-advertisements covered up is not an exercise in fairness; it is an exercise in deception. A fair trial does not start by deceiving a jury, and on that basis I would deem it improper.

Police are often seen with tattoos and shaved heads now.

“Would think they would be important identifiers. Judge tampering with evidence?”

Yeah, you hit the nail on the head here. This isn’t a judge being nice, this is totally tampering with evidence.

A jury is NOT supposed to take previous crimes into account during a deliberation .. But if he starts seig-heiling in the court and blurting out racial comments a judge rarely asks the jury to strike such things.

And besides.. like I tell all tattoo aficionados... That shit is permanent. Act like it.
