Terrified policemen pushed each other in a desperate rush to flee the home of a topless machete thug who told them: “I’ll take your ****ing heads off.”

The two officers were confronted by bare-chested Daniel Meir, who told them to get out of his bedroom

...

“They ran down the stairs, having to push each other to make a quicker exit.

“They retreated to a vehicle where they locked their doors and waited for assistance to come.”

Were the officers carrying guns, unlike many UK officers?

It’s Britain. If the cops would have subdued the guy they very well may have been charged themselves.

They don’t even carry Tasers or Pepper Spray?

Actually there is probable a lot of crime that never happens just because someone is watching. And a lot of good police work is being there in the neighborhood.

Plus they do have access to some serious firepower and highly trained officers in a very short amount of time if needed.

In Britain, there are special squads of armed police officers. So, yeah, if there’s a dangerous situation, the police have to call the police. In 2013, when that soldier in London was rammed by a car and then attacked by two Muslims with meat cleavers, you could see police officers standing back waiting for the armed unit to arrive (meanwhile, two women went to the dying man to try to help and comfort him). The problem with that set up is response time. In the above story, if the guy with the machete starts attacking other people, he can do a lot of damage if the 5-10 minutes it takes the armed officers to arrive.

A microcosm of the Orlando shooting where the SWAT Team took three hours before going in. That may be OK in a hostage situation but ludicrous in one where there's an active shooter/hacker/whatever.

When seconds count, the police's police are only minutes away!

And I'm thinkin that last fella tryin to get down the stairs at the tag end of that fustercluck would much rather have been packin' some firepower as opposed to a radio or whatever they use to call for said "help". d;^)

Never saw a shirtless man described as “topless.”

Well, that is embarrassing. Where are the Brits who qualify for the SAS and the SBS? I guess there aren’t enough men for the services required.

The perp.

More background here.

He doesn't appear to be anything other than brain-addled. We'll see.
