CLEVELAND -- So the speech on the first night of the Republican National Convention that "everyone is talking about" was Melania Trump's endorsing her husband's candidacy, which appeared to have lifted passages from Michelle Obama's speech endorsing her husband's candidacy eight years ago.

Since 1801 the motto of the London Stock Exchange has been “dictum meum pactum” which is Latin for “My word is my bond”. The American actor Melvyn Douglas who died in 1981 said “Your word is your bond”.

It appears that Michelle did some plagiarism of her own and if you believe that then Melania hijacked a thief. This old saw has been around for 200 plus years

“Your word is your bond”.

I have heard that phrase uttered by people hundreds of times (people with character who are trying to explain themselves, and people without character who want you to think they have it)

So, I guess they all copied Michelle Obama. Well, we certainly are fortunate to have her as our First Lady, then.

Here’s the quote from Melania’s speech:

“From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect, they taught and showed me morals in their daily life. That is the lesson that I continue to pass along to our son. And we need to pass those lessons on to many generations to follow because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

And from Michelle Obama in 2008:

“... Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them. And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

Judge for yourself.

Your concern over this nothing burger has been noted. You seem to have your panties all in a bunch.

Melanie’s life story and positive outlook for her beloved USA will out shadow any absurd comparisons to the Wookie.

I simply pointed out the quotes from the respective speakers. Others will interpret them however they will, I have no emotional investment in your response or anyone else’s. Let whatever conclusions you may draw be based upon the actual spoken words.

Sure, Jan.

No investment, whatsoever. That’s why you keep posting your ‘concern’ postings, thread after thread.

LOL.

Give it a rest. That is, if you’re really not invested one way or the other.

My husband said “who cares?” He thinks she is classy, beautiful, smart and speaks well, none of which can be said of michelle. And, he is not into politics at all. I even told him I think I fell in love with her a little bit and he laughed.
We both agree that this is someone who would represent us well as a true First Lady.

If the dems are going to speak of plagarism, well, they are the experts.

Judge for yourself.

The top one was the truth. The bottom one was a pack a lies.

Do you disagree?

Melania merely took the load of crap that Moochelle spewed in 2008 and turned it into a polished gem. Did anyone here think Moochelle wrote that load of crap in 2008? Does anyone here think that what Melania spoke last night were not the sentiments of her heart?

I agree. This came out way too fast to be a lazy speechwriter’s fault. I think it was sabotage. Hopefully, it backfires.

As far as who meant what, that is speculation. People often attribute qualities to others they don’t know based on their perceptions of that person. Going by the spoken words, it’s hard to avoid the claim of plagiarism.

Unless Malania was lamenting that she’s a poor black child and everyone hates her in this racist horrible country and she’s never been proud of the USA then I don’t see how there could be plagiarism.

She nailed it, coming across as a classy legal immigrant, and the MSM is pi$$ed!

Because of one short phrase that was the same?? That’s NOT plagiarism or anything close. Did you just come over from the GOP version of Code Pink?

I hope somebody puts together a montage of all the left-wing talking airheads saying the exact same thing about this.

How about when Bush was running for the first time and ALL the network talking heads learned a new word: gravitas. Put about twenty of them together with the "lacks gravitas" to counter any charges of plagiarism.

Does this mean that every President who said "The state of the union is strong!" was plagiarizing a former State of the Union address?

Not one short phrase, it pretty much amounted to a paragraph. Trite commonplaces, but still a lift. Someone working for the Trump campaign was either malicious or incompetent. Do you want them to stay on? I want them gone.

I think it was sabotage.

You may well be right. ID the speechwriter, check him/her out for any hint of leftist tendencies or connections, then base that opinion on the results.
