I just turned my Outside US FLAG upside down.
The upside down U.S. flag is an official signal of distress. It is not meant to be, and is not officially recognized as any type of disrespect when so displayed for the right reasons. To the contrary, here is the relevant part of the US Code of Laws regarding how to fly the flag when in distress: THE FLAG CODE

You are absolutely right. Anyone who flies Old Glory upside down should expect emergency services to respond in short order. It is a distress call to the location it’s being flown at.

You can fly it upside-down as your political protest, if you are so inclined. Just don’t claim that the Flag Code allows you to do so.
As they should have.
I figure I will not fly the flag while I am able.
At some point in the future, I figure one will be forced to fly a flag on certain holidays like Nazi Germany. If you didn’t fly the flag you were fined and/or harassed. Even the Jews had to fly the flag.
