nce the nation decided to back Brexit, secessionist groups from New England in the east to the Pacific Coast in the west have been inspired to throw off the yoke.
Across the pond in Texas, activists believe they could stand alone because their $1.6trillion a year economy would be one of the 10 largest in the world.
Momentum is gathering so much so, the hashtag #Texit and #Texodus is trending on social media site Twitter.
After the Brexit result came in on Friday last week, Daniel Millar, president of the Texas Nationalist Movement, called on Texas governor and Republican Greg Abbott to hold a referendum on leaving the US.

Like! California really needs to be a Republic again. Bye!
I wish TX would leave—then turn around and conquer the rest of the US.
Why would the big-government loving people California want to leave?
Oh, this again.
Well, Texit does happen to have a very good ring to it.
Your on the right path, sorta.
Didn’t the cultural revolution of the 60’s start in California with beatniks, hippies, etc; then spread?
There is a popular term called Californicate, where Californians so sick of their own culture move elsewhere, only to inflict other states with it, Washington and Oregon being prime examples.
I do not think California needs to create it’s own country, rather they need to be excommunicated from the rest of us. Something on the order of where a person with an infectious disease is quarantined from the rest.
I’ve often envisioned getting all the big bull dozers and excavators of this country lined up on the California border, and just start digging and pushing until California just floats off into the Pacific.
They could be our Cuba of the west.
Time to break up DC strangle hold on Southern North America. Leave them with the non productive “progressive” states run by their fellowvtravelers.
Texas would never vote to leave, we are to tied into the US economy.
Trying to be too clever....
Too bad they do not know US history....leaving the union has been tried before. That doesn’t end well
We tried once before. It wasn’t pleasant.
Secession, the breakup of the United States, just plays into the hands of (gives Aid and Comfort to) those who already seek the destruction of the United States and Western Culture.
It’s just talk. Nations don’t splinter when they’re at the height of power. Electing Donald Trump is our peaceful revolution against the entrenched self styled elitists. This revolution will be peaceful only if Trump is elected. If Hillary and the establishment prevails then I expect serious violence within five years.
So we can become a full-fledged People's Republic like Cuba or Venezuela without the restrictions imposed by the US Constitution.
Except the the U.S. wouldn’t give up that much coastline and the ports
I couldn’t imagine how Caliornia could survive on its own
Thank you for sticking up for California. There are great conservatives here. I believe the guy who runs this site is in California.
I shake my head when people say, “Cut it loose,” “Give it to Mexico,” etc. Really? They want to hand over to Mexico one of the most beautiful states, with great weather, beaches, mountains, farmland, wineries, etc., etc.? I. Don’t. Think. So! Let’s boot out the d***ed illegals, (like we supposed “fruits and nuts” tried to take a step towards, when we voted for Prop. 187,) and maybe then California will be a place people want to come to and live in again.
The idiots do not realize it but if successful they would play into the hands of Mexico. The latter would “snap them up.” On the other hand they will be going to Mexico anyway.
more realistic
NORTHERN CAL CREATES ITS OWN STATE
This may not be the same group of people, but there have been a campaign over the past decade by a group in northern California to split from California and form a new state called "Jefferson":
