It is a city said to be glamorous, historic, scenic, vibrant and charming. Nonetheless, Miami has been named the absolute “worst city to live in,” according to a meticulous new analysis of demographics and other data. Researchers from 24/7 Wall Street, a consumer and financial advisory site, based their conclusions on U.S. Census Bureau statistics from 550 American cities with populations over 65,000. They collected numbers on categories such as crime, economy, education, environment, health, housing, infrastructure, and leisure to make their judgments.

...

About 50 years ago it was. Now it’s filled with people who will never assimilate. Mission accomplished for the federal government.

Yep, just like Jamaica, if you stay on the resort property it’s fine. Once you step out with the “residents” - be careful.

I left "The City that Cocaine Built" 16 years ago. (Leaving for central Florida). Although it has the best weather in Florida, traffic became unbearable. It started downhill 55 ears ago, upon my arrival there. Oops!

Miami needs more Syrian refugees. ;)

Liberty City was a no-go area when I lived in Coral Gables, from ‘72-’77. The restaurants’ menus were mostly in Spanish. I was robbed and shot in ‘75, leaving a landmark prime rib house in West Palm with my fiancée, and still carry the .32cal today. Haven’t been back since.

If you like living in a foreign country but don’t want to leave the US move to Miami. I endured it for 11 years. Its a chithole.

When CASTRO took over Cuba, and the refugees flooded into Miami.

There is no way it’s worse than Detroit!
The weather by itself would probably make it more bearable to live there than most Northern cities.

Negatives: rainy season is very long. It could rain every day for many days in a row, but usually in mid-afternoon.

Also, Spanish is the first language there by far. Not many people in stores know any English. And the Spanish they speak is very difficult to understand even for native speakers of Spanish.

I watched from the University of Miami as US Army tanks rolled down US1. (At the time, they were riding the railroad tracks adjacent to US1).

Yup....I went to a Jamaica resort years ago and if you left the property, you had to sign a waiver they were not responsible for what happens to you...

Including death...

Born there 1935, 1960 Ft. Laud. , 2000 moved 250 miles North. thinking of moving another 200.
It was a nice sleepy town until after WW2. During the war it was a military center, all branches of service.
The boom came when ex GIs moved down.
Check out Fort Dallas!

Left 1984, BP dropped 10 points just getting out of there.
Moved to NC. You couldn’t pay me enough to move back.
A shame as it was nice growing up there in the 50s and 60s..

I miss the water/Keys, key limes, good avocados, good mangoes.
Forget everything else.

“Yup....I went to a Jamaica resort years ago and if you left the property, you had to sign a waiver they were not responsible for what happens to you...”

I used to go to Jamaica to attend Reggae Sunsplash. I never had so much fun. The Jamaican’s were friendly and treated my friends and I as family. One night at a club in a not so nice section of Montego Bay, one of the local big wigs told our host if we didn’t buy everyone in the club a beer, we were not walking out alive. Must have been 100 people in the club. I forked out the 25 bucks for beer then forked out another 75 for more beer as good will.

At that point our host told us anything we wanted all we had to do was ask. Beautiful women were dancing with us. Offers of drugs were politely declined. But my one request was enthusiastically filled. I wanted the best jerk chicken in Montego Bay. It was delicious.

Next night our hotel was having live music. I play a little guitar and my friend plays bass. We asked if we could play a song. That evening we played a reggae version of Dyer Maker.

Was the best vacation I ever took until I got married.
