Visitors who try to use Google to search for "Clinton suspicious deaths", are warned to NOT visit Free Republic.

The following Google search returned THREE levels of warnings which is enough to scare away most people from visiting the FR link...

(1)Most of the returned links to FR articles were marked: "This site may harm your computer."

If you click on the link anyway, you get a 2nd warning...

IF You still are intent on clicking the FR link, you get a 3rd warning...

It works okay for me. Your vanity is listed 5th. I didn’t get any warnings when I clicked on it.

I know my Silk browser drastically stopped processing/executing clicks on FreeRepublic hyperlinks..so I downloaded a Chrome app...it froze a few initial times...so I downloaded Firefox and all is well. That was all on my Kindle HD Fire. Never any problems on my laptop or desktop or phone.

Chill out people, it’s a technical issue.

What’s happening is that Google is indexing the redirection pages that were being used at one point, I suppose to track click-throughs.

The redirection pages forwarding users to another site is triggering Google’s malware warnings - and properly so, since redirects to other domains is a key technique of malicious/infected websites.

The most straightforward fix here is to have the redirect pages removed from the index via a robots.txt statement, then trigger a reindexing of the site through Webmaster Tools.

Alternatively, something can be done with the .htaccess files to take those redirect pages and redirect them to the FR page they are associated with.

While I wouldn’t put political foul play past them, it’s unlikely to be what is going on in this case. This is a technical issue.

FreeRepublic is arguably the safest site anyone can visit on the web. It only places a single cookie on your computer and that’s only to determine whether or not you’re a registered (returning) visitor.

I hope JimRob entertains a lawsuit against the evil gargoyle..

I tried that search and got no warnings. But I did notice results from FR are way down on page 3 of search results.

I had to type in the exact same search terms you did in order to see the warnings, and the warnings do not appear on every entry.

Wherever the warnings appear, copying and pasting the link gives a result like this:

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjwkoGPssTNAhXINSYKHQRIBLsQFgg1MAM&url=%2Finterstitial%3Furl%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.freerepublic.com%2F%25255Ehttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailymail.co.uk%2Fnews%2Farticle-508210%2FThe-man-knew-The-truth-death-Hillary-Clintons-close-friend-Vince-Foster.html&usg=AFQjCNFJ7vPXMUfZotamWR2VUONsfhyiEQ

I cannot copy and paste what actually shows up when I mouse over the link.

But when there is no warning, mousing over the title shows something similar to this:

www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1159881/posts

and when I try to copy/paste that same link, it pastes like this:

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=16&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiYjYq-s8TNAhXFKCYKHUjpBuQ4ChAWCD8wBQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.freerepublic.com%2Ffocus%2Ff-news%2F1159881%2Fposts&usg=AFQjCNF-Qc_taI1FAoiqjYJI16hCn0BouA

It looks like the difference is that the warnings appear whenever a second website appears after the first website (which is FreeRepublic). I use Google Chrome, and it simply will not allow me to go to the site at all when there is a warning. Maybe those links actually do go somewhere that is not FR?

did you use the “site:freerepublic.com” modifier in your search term?

I get the same as you with no space after the colon (get warned) and with space after the color (no warnings).

I tried a bunch of other sites without the space and not one delivered the warning. I suspect site design problems at FR rather than something nefarious. It might be the 1995 web design.

Same here as well, it is the redirect pages that are causing the issue, but the returns on a site search with a space between the “site:” modifier and URL return much less information and within a few hits the results point to other sites, not FR.

I had to check this.

Search criteria:

clinton suspicious deaths site:freerepublic.com

(no space at “site:freerepublic.com”)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Results:

Google = bad

Yahoo = bad

Ixquick https = bad

Ixquick = bad

Startpage HTTPS = bad

Startpage = bad

DuckDuckGo = Good

Bing = Good

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Negative surprise for me: Startpage and Ixquick.

 Positive surprise:  Bing (Microsoft)

Most of the time (99 %) I am using DuckDuckGo.

Thanks ALL, for your feedback. I'm replying to thoughtomator post 23 primarily, but cc'ing all the rest of you...

Thoughtomator, I don't know WHO you mean to take these steps, each of 300 million internet users in America? or someone who controls the FR web pages? Please clarify.

As for those who recommended Startpage.com instead of Google.com, I tried Startpage.com, and did not get those warnings, but clicking on those hits took me straight to the redirection pages, and I do not like that.
I would much rather the links take me first to the FR page, and if I wish to do so, I can click on the redirection page myself that is listed in the FR Page.

The proposed fix is something John or Jim can do in about 5-10 minutes. Nobody else can do anything about it.

My post #17 above gives the technical details of what should be done.

I personally use DuckDuckGo as my main search engine, though I have to admit that Google often gives better results, especially if I have a complicated search to perform.
